The final chapters here are kind of anti-climactic in some ways, if I'm honest. The whole sort-of confrontation with the sun is taken acre of off-page by Roshaun, and I'm still not particularly impressed with him. I find it kind of odd how that went, TBH. At least what's going on RE: Alaalu is more compelling, because the Lone One gets foiled by a dog, which is pretty rad. But overall this book felt a little more passive than some of the others have. I'm interested in seeing where we go next!

These chapters are the ones in which Tarasai begins to come into her own and find her power. She and Sanjeet make it to a mysterious woman who has a ton of Tutsu, AKA fairies, living all over her property. I am really loving this transition for her, and I can't wait to see where she heads after this.

This chapter we meet Jason Blackwell for the first time, and I don't know who he is to this story or how important a role he will play in the plot, but apparently he's having quite an effect on Jordan and so he intrigues me. Meanwhile, Jill is off with Ryan and they're learning a lot about one another and their powers, plus brainstorming some answers for where Aftermath might be hiding.

In these chapters, the most notable thing IMO is the death of Governor Theresa Gregory. Listen, the woman is no great loss to humanity, as we know from getting to see inside her mind and get a glimpse of her plans...but damn did she make an effective target for Aftermath.

This is the chapter where Nita and Kit go to visit the Lone One, and it is living in a pretty awesome looking temple while being gawked at by the locals, none of whom seem to take it seriously or be scared at all. Nita manages to box the Lone One into a pretty specific promise, and I'm super curious how this is going to work out for it.

These chapters are so hard, y'all. The whole thing, from start to finish, is an absolute loss of hopes and ideals and innocence that Tarasai was somehow still clinging to despite everything she's already gone through. Not only are her dreams of justice very nearly mocked and certainly dismissed, but her mother finds a way to reactivate her Ehru mission and I HATE IT.
