  • The Grace Of Kings- Episode 18
We're almost at the end, and I'm blown away that we're getting another jump ahead of three years so close to the end of the book. This is all moving so fast! Thank you to Kyle for commissioning this episode!
So in this section we get some more clever plans from Kuni and his people, and it's almost sad how easily Mata falls for them. The main one is the setup that implies Master Pering is betraying Mata to Kuni, and nothing Pering says can convince Mata otherwise. He winds up being exiled and murdered by strategically placed bandits on the way out. Oops.
There is so much left to wrap, and only one episode left! Eeek!

  • Son Of A Trickster- Episode 4
Oof. Y'all. This was a lot. Robin, I'm kinda mad at you for making me experience this. It's brutal.
These chapters, Jared is basically abandoned by his mom, and it's some sick terrible abusive fucked up shit. She's accusing him of being "disloyal" because he was helping his dad with money, although I think a lot of us would call Jared a little too loyal.
The way she abandons him is so cruel, too. She fucks up his living space, trashes his stuff, breaks his bed, just generally makes the place almost unliveable, and then doesn't pay any of the bills so that they nearly lose utilities. The whole thing is meant to make his life hell, and it works.
I hope you all enjoy the episode, and I will see you soon with another one!

  • Deadwood, S02E10- Advances, None Miraculous
Hello darkness my old friend. AKA Patrick.
This episode my worst fears are confirmed. I'm really feeling for Martha in this episode, and while I deeply understand her desire to bail I really hope that she's able to see it through to the other side. Ugh this sucks so much. And poor Seth.
This whole thing with I'm so annoyed that Mose is still alive. Fuck that guy.
    Thanks for listening!

  • Veronica Mars, S02E08- Ahoy, Mateys!
Thank you to Jacqui for commissioning this episode!
I'm sorry that this episode went up so late that the live watch I mention in the beginning of the episode already happened. That's my bad.
This episode we've got a kind of unusual case of the week, in that the people Veronica is working with and the people Keith is working with are connected. We wind up finding out that while Keith's clients have been experiencing genuine harassment, they faked the most recent incident in order to convince him. And in Veronica's case, things are different than usual because in a lot of ways I wholeheartedly side with the perp who was tormenting homophobic parents. I don't totally approve of the methods, but like...I'm not mad at him, either.
Thank you so much for listening, and I will see you again soon with a new episode!

  • Deadwood, S02E09- Amalgamation And Capital
Oh hi. Hey. Thanks to Patrick for putting me through this. You monster.
Seriously though, this episode is really coming at us with some bad fucking news and I'm not here for it and I'm so worried about what this will mean for Seth and Martha now. I'm getting invested in their working things out, and this is the sort of thing that can break up couples who are already strong.
There's other stuff happening too, but the main thing I'm here for is Al finally dealing with Isringhausen and her getting (apparently) taken out of the picture. Who knows if it's permanent but I'm hoping we've seen the last of her.
Thank you so much for listening, and I will be seeing you again soon with a new episode!

  • Son Of Trickster- Episode 3
Thank you again to Robin for commissioning this whole book!
The way this story is set up employs one of my favorite tropes, which is going backward and then forward again in the story, to slowly tease out a series of events so that we are only equipped with bits and pieces of information at any given time. This method of storytelling has always been absolutely gripping to me, and I really like it for this particular book because there are so many supernatural revelations mixed in with ordinary life events and moments.
I have to say that on top of everything that we find out about Jared's past and all the horrible also like him...somehow. I like knowing he has company.
Thanks so much for listening, and I will see you soon with a new episode!

  • Deadwood, S02E08- Childish Things
Many thanks to Patrick for commissioning this episode!
Okay so this episode is full of pretty intense encounters, but the most intense one of all has to be the one between Martha and Alma. I'm not exactly sure what Alma is getting at, but I think Martha suspects that she's pregnant? And is trying to get her to admit it? Whatever the case, it's a tense conversation that results in Alma going head to head with Isringhausen to let off some steam, which is a bad move.
There's also the kind of cute thing with Nuttal getting his bicycle, and I'm grateful for the distraction from all the murder and betrayal. Thanks, Tom.
    Enjoy the episode!

  • Veronica Mars, S02E07- Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner
Wow. So, this is a really strange episode and while I liked it, I sure didn't see this coming at all. I'm totally worried about Meg now and even though I kinda hate her I'm feeling like maybe there's something more going on.
Many many thanks to Jacqui for commissioning this episode, and for also commissioning a live watch on Facebook so that everyone could hang out with me while I sat there gobsmacked.
Also can I just say how totally unprepared I was for Sheriff Lamb to be a good guy in this episode? Since when? I loved this so much.
Thanks so much for listening, and I will see you again soon with a new one!

  • The Obelisk Gate- Episode 1
Many thanks to Jason for commissioning the first episode of the next book in the Broken Earth trilogy, The Obelisk Gate!
Many apologies for how late I am in posting this, but switching computers really held up my routine and I'm trying gamely to catch up. And these chapters were totally bananas and I'm really freaked out at the fact that we're going to get POV chapters from a guardian because they're frankly terrifying.
I'm super excited about getting into the rest of this story. Thank you so much for listening, and I will be seeing you in a couple weeks with a new episode!

  • Son Of A Trickster- Episode 2
Many many thanks to Robin for commissioning this entire book up front! I'm so thrilled to get further into the world of Son Of A Trickster.
First off, Robin sent me a long email with a ton of really fascinating information pertaining to the neighborhood and culture that Jared lives in, so I hope you will all indulge me as I read through that to give everyone who is unfamiliar (read: most of us) an idea of where our protagonist is coming from.
    Also, WHAT IS JARED THO????
