  • Parable Of The Sower Finale
Many thanks to the patient and stoic D'Nique for commissioning this entire damn book on her own (with some help from Denise!) and I hope that she's enjoyed the coverage. This book ends on a combination sad/hopeful note, with the farm being in shambles and the people either dead or fled, but the crew deciding to try stay put and try to make it work. I think they made the right choice, and I'm very curious about whether I'm going to get to see what happens next!

  • Blood Of Elves- Episode 2 (LIVE READ!)
Hey there my lovelies! This is the second half of my live-read of Chapter One, and our old friend Dandelion is back and almost gets himself killed before an old friend comes and saves his ass. I'm so curious what's going on with this! I hope you enjoy it.

  • Blood Of Elves- Episode 1 (LIVE READ!)
Welcome! If you haven't read this book but you're looking for something to entertain you for the next hour and change, please check out this episode! Melanie commissioned a live-read, and there will be another following shortly after with the second half of this chapter. I tried to do this justice, although there are names and words that it's tough to wrap my tongue around. This is a really fun book so far, and I'm excited to read more!

  • The Fifth Season- Episode 6
Alright so things are starting to get real serious in this book, and it's all turning a corner that I never expected. The obelisks are more significant, but in a different way, than I had first imagined and apparently the fact that Syenite could control one is worrying enough that she needs to die. Also, there's some revelations on how Guardians work which I never guessed, and there's a secret community of orogenes gathering together in one area and hiding out. I have no idea where things go from here!

  • Saga- Episode 2
I am so excited to finally read more of Saga, even though the horror of some of these illustrations will haunt me until the end of my days. In some ways it was all worth it to see The Will crush a pedophile pimp's head between his hands. However, it does suck that the little girl he tried to save is still trapped and I want him to focus on that instead of revenge for The Stalk.
    ALSO! TREE ROCKETSHIPS!

  • Deep Wizardry- Episode 4
In this episode, I'm shocked that this whole section is only covering one chapter. There's a lot of emotion happening here, as poor Nita tries to come to terms with the fact that she's going to die, and her parents struggle with the enormous revelations that she and Kit dumped on them. While on THE SURFACE OF THE FUCKING MOON.

  • The Novice- Episode 10
Guess what! Turns out I was right about some things and not AT ALL on some others. Also, I can't fucking WAIT until Sonea has her formal battle, I'm so excited.

  • The Grace Of Kings- Episode 8
In the interest of brevity for the next several posts, I'm going to be saying as little as possible. This episode, Mata and Kuni are buddies forever and Kuni stands up for women and they win the battle, so everything is wonderful and nothing hurts.

  • Veronica Mars, S01E20- M.A.D.
Thank you to Rachel for sponsoring this episode of Veronica Mars, which makes me a liar because it's sneaking in just before my Christmas vacation and thus my announcement last episode about no more VM until 2019 is not true. Unless you're a regular listener rather than a Patron! In which case, Happy New Year!
This episode has one of the more simultaneously silly and upsetting case-of-the-weeks that we've seen on the show thus far. First, the silly part: there's a girl freaking out because her ex might share a video of her...erotically eating a popsicle. The video is just so tame that I thought there had to be more to it, but nope! That appears to be it. I guess she's skinny-dipping while she eats the popsicle, but when Veronica asks if it's a video of the two of them having sex, this girl says, "Worse!" and I'm sorry but I fail to see how this is worse.
The upsetting part is that this girl is being held hostage in an abusive relationship by a piece of shit asshole who gets off on controlling her, and in the end he decides to release the video anyway because since she refuses to be with him, he will "ruin her". In other words, this video will make her worthless in the eyes of anyone who sees it. And then we find out that this poor girl doesn't remember doing what's in the video, because she was fucking drugged. And this happens at the same party Veronica was drugged and raped. And who sold him the drugs? Fucking LOGAN.
    Ugh. I hate this reveal.
Thanks so much for listening, everyone, and I will see you in a week or so with a new episode!

  • Parable Of The Sower- Episode 7
Thank you again to Denise for giving me the blank check to cover this episode! I'm only one episode of coverage away from the end of the book and I have to confess that I'm not at all sure where this is going. Will our little ragtag band of survivors make it to the farm? Will the religion that Lauren invented really take root?
You know, it's only just occurring to me that the book is called Parable Of The Sower because Lauren is sowing Starseed, AKA her new faith. How did I not put that together before?
Yet again we get some more additions to the band than I expected, but these are even more tenuous an addition than the last two. We also get more information about the wage slavery that has taken over in this world than we've seen thus far, and it's a far cry from the cushy indentured servitude that we see in, for example, Ready Player One. Frankly, it's a lot more realistic because the legality of it all is questionable and only maintained by the fact that the oppressed people have no power to question it, get defensive with lawyers, or do anything to change their situation. *sigh* What does it say about our world that I think this is something that may actually be happening in the United States at this very moment?
Thanks again so much to everyone for listening, and I will see you soon (hopefully) with the finale episode!
