Kimblee escapes with his life, but it was a close thing. Meanwhile, we see that Dr. Marcoh and Mei Chang have gone a separate direction to find Scar's brother's hidden notes.

This episode is really full of revelations, and the one that I should have seen coming is about the fact that the Shandorans are from the piece of Jaya that shot into the sky, and they were robbed of their homeland due to the reverence of the Sky people for "vearth", which they don't have much of. It's interesting to hear Gan Fall admit all this, and I am very curious what kind of restitution he's planning on trying to make. Is he going to help taking down Eneru?

This book is really heating up and I am just LOVING it. First of all, we've got Nina and Hanne going to see the Prince and watching the interaction between him and the "Lantsov Pretender", which Nina isn't as confident about anymore. Seems like he may actually be the real deal.
Then there's the return of Alina, and the Darkling pulling whatever kind of bullshit he's decided to pursue now. I'm not sure how he's doing all this, but he's got access to more power than we thought he would at this point, and he seems to be using Alina and Mal to do it.

We find out something really interesting here, and that's the fact that the piece of Jaya that disappeared (and lost poor Noland his reputation and his life) wound up getting caught in the knock-up stream and swept into the sky. That means that this land may potentially be as full of gold as Noland promised.

First of all, it turns out that Dr. Marcoh is still alive, and he's been taken into custody by Scar for reasons that I do not think are clear to us yet. I expect that Scar thinks Marcoh can do something for him regarding alchemy...bu Scar isn't hungry for power, he's hungry for vengeance against someone that he now knows is a Homunculi. Does he think Marcoh can help him fight Wrath????
Meanwhile, Ed is leaving Hawkeye's place and reporting to Al about what he's learned about the genocide of the Ishvalan people, and we're learning more about Kimblee specifically and his connection to the Homunculi as it currently stands. Which is to say, they spring him from prison and send him after Scar.

This shit is really starting to get nuts. I keep thinking Nina has been found out or is in danger of being found out, and it keeps being like...borderline true? True in a way? And I'm really impressed at the way in which Leigh Bardugo is able to sustain the tension for so long and make me genuinely worry for her despite knowing that she's a main character and very unlikely to just be executed or anything. I am simply ALWAYS nervous for her!
Meanwhile, Nikolai is recovering and decides to open up to Zoya a little more and show her what he's been dealing with, and the way that things are progressing has got me very, very worried.

So this is a really heavy episode, in which we learn a lot more about the genocide of the Ishvalan people and the ways in which the folks we have gotten to know reacted to the orders they were given at the time. There's something reassuring about the fact that some of them had a major issue with what they were being asked to do, but it's upsetting to know how few of them actively resisted. The soldier's drive to obery runs very deep.
