Elgen Spears has made his move, taking over several world governments and assassinating their leaders on live-streams being fed to every active screen in the world. I genuinely didn't know how he was going to pull this off, but I'm hopeful that he will be hoisted on his own petard (the petard in this instance being the ship that he stole from his brethren).

These chapters as just devastating. I was simply not ready for David to actually be gone. I really truly wasn't, and that whole scene was so difficult to read. I am so sad for Genya, who just doesn't seem like she can catch a fucking break, and I know there's no way to undo this terrible loss.
Meanwhile, Nina is struggling to do something with herself after getting absolutely leveled by the news. Despite her terrible grief and guilt she manages to pull something together that's actually pretty impressive.
Oh and the Darkling is on the move.

There's not enough real information to assess what his role, if any, is in what's going on with the Homunculi, but we at least find out that there's a decent reason for him leaving his family.
Well, allegedly a decent reason. It's unclear if it was really worth it.
