On this week's episode, the guys have been gone a month on a mini-hiatus, which results in the off-topic train calling at a dozen stations on their intrepid way to Dead Rising. Namely, Silent Hill 1, Resident Evils 5, 6 and 7, Thundercats, Heroes, The House Abandon… the list goes on. It had been a while since we’d recorded the last cast, and it means a lot of catching up.

This week’s homework was of course, Dead Rising 1. However unfortunately, because there was so much to cover beforehand, we actually get cut off before getting there. The main focus instead is Tom and Matt’s critical analysis of the recent Alien: Covenant – a pretty yet vapid entry into the fabled series that works very, very hard to undermine everything that made the original Alien great. Someone get Ridley Scott’s scotch off of him, and someone murder the screenwriter when they go unaccompanied to the bathroom! Just leave the fingering to Fassbender.

On this week's episode, the guys chat a little about last week’s Return Of The Living Dead and its excellent Making Of that can be found on YouTube, as well as other completely off-topic nonsense like William Shatner, more Stephen King adaptations, Harry Mason’s Crazy Day, Banjo-Kazooie and infuriating invisible cameramen in titles we’ve played recently. Breath Of The Wild gets further dissection too, until Chris, the all powerful King Of Segueways (probably Segue’s?) gets us back on the three sided track.

This week’s homework was of course, the clever yet flawed Triangle. More 12-piece jigsaw than enigma machine, we wade through the heavy-handed influences to find a lot of good points and some fairly consistent logic – but frustratingly, this makes the inconsistencies that do exist all the more apparent. We also discuss some grounded theories as to what is going on, what we nicked off of YouTube and regurgitated here for you, kind of like a seagull would. GUYS DID WE MENTION THE BOAT IS CALLED THE TRIANGLE? The movie blows our minds so hard we end up inventing the very real horror that is Ryan Reynolds, The Scary Pirate Dog – he’s on all fours, and he’s gonna get yer... May God have mercy on our souls.

We also touch on the rights and wrongs of The Walking Dead’s Season 7 finale, new films Life and Ghost In The Shell – a rather serviceable adaptation in itself but perhaps too similar to the original? Meanwhile Tom has become hooked after his first dabble with the modern day phenomena of Escape Rooms – although it may have potentially brought RE7 one step closer to being horrifyingly real. Remember kids, don’t eat bugs or have a womb made of bugs – it just ain’t gonna end well.

We’re here though to uncover the truth as we investigate the zombie outbreak that is Dead Rising Watchtower. Although we differ in opinion on how good a movie it is, there is some talk on what makes a great adaptation and whether films like Watchtower succeed with a ’filling-in’ approach, helping to bridge gaps between games. Afterwards we set sail for the off-topic archipelago, covering everything from Nu-Metal and dogs covered in pasta sauce, to new games Thimbleweed Park and Blackwood Crossing, as we get the show format back-to-front – whoops. But hey, it’s the longest one ever – girthy. I mean groovy!
