Coach Hugo Broos is well aware that both teams will be brimming with confidence after making it this far in the tournament, but he is also very wary of what the South African senior men’s team rivals can offer when the stakes are so high. “Cape Verde, we do not underestimate them, we have seen how well they play. They have discipline, they are very well organized, so we know what we are up against. They cannot be underestimated, even if we come off of a win against Africa’s best,” he said.

Keith Boyd, 57, is hoping to run from Cape Town, South Africa, to Cairo, Egypt, in fewer than 318 days, the existing world record set in 1998.

The challenge is to raise money for Rainbow Leaders, a charity that he founded in South Africa to encourage young people to vote, the British Heart Foundation and a charity to tackle gender-based violence, which is yet to be chosen.

Mr Boyd, who was born in the UK but grew up in South Africa, will set off from the V&A Waterfront on Thursday, July 27 and will be covering the cost of the expedition himself.

Two seasons into Cricket SA's Division 2 Cricket going up against the country's seasoned professionals, Kwena Maphaka and his teammates have gone on to win two Cricket SA trophies, namely the T20 Knockout (last season) and the One Day Cup earlier this season.

As a result, the ongoing Under-19 Cricket World Cup has seen South Africa reap the rewards of throwing the youngsters into the deep end as the Junior Proteas have mostly made light work of their opponents in this campaign.

National Media Launch: Alexforbes Battle Boards Chess Championship 2024

Please join us for the national media launch of the inaugural Alexforbes Battle Boards Chess Championship for high schools in South Africa.

This online team tournament featuring 128 high schools and 1280 players from across Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, North-West, and Western Cape aims to break barriers, emerging as the most accessible and affordable sports tournament for high school learners across South Africa.

Play begins on 10 February 2024 where schools battle it out in their provincial pools. The top 32 school teams advance to the final stages to compete for honours on 24 February 2024.

Hugo Broos believes Bafana Bafana have a good chance of making the Africa Cup of Nations final, if they can find a way past Morocco in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations last 16 match-up.

Morocco, the top ranked team in Africa, will be overwhelming favourites to beat Bafana at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro.

But Broos is confident his side can spring a surprise.
