In Hour 2 of The Sports Rush today, Brett is joined by Sam King, who is on the Purdue Boilermakers beat for the Lafayette Journal & Courier! We first hear from Sam about how important of a win it was for Purdue over the weekend as they defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini by a score of 44-19. We hear about the difference between the program being 2-3 compared to 1-4 in regards to how the rest of the season can go or could have gone depending on the result of the game from the past weekend. We also get Sam’s impressions of Hudson Card so far through 5 games. Additionally, we hear from Sam about the defense for Purdue’s football team and what can be done to improve that, and we hear about some of the positives as well, including some of the program’s standout players. The Colts had a heartbreaking loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon in overtime. Brett starts off by asking about the expectations changing for this Colts team, with the fan base now expecting wins in games such as this one. Is that fair to expect this early in a season that has looked better than the last one? Brett also asks Destin for his opinion on what switched the momentum from the first half to the second half, that saw the Colts come back from a 23-0 deficit in the third and fourth quarter and send the game to overtime. Brett is also sure to ask Destin for his opinions on Gus Bradley and the defense of the Colts, and we hear about how Destin thinks Gus’s style tends to struggle against quarterbacks like Matt Stafford and offenses like the Rams. Before Brett and James dive into the latest with the Colts, Brett can’t help but ask James for his thoughts on the massive trade that went down in the NBA that sent Damian Lillard to the Bucks after seeing James tweeting about it. In Hour 1 of The Sports Rush today, we hear from Purdue Fort Wayne Men’s Basketball head coach Jon Coffman! Brett and Coach Coffman discuss what this off-season was like with many new incoming players and transfers, compared to past off-seasons where Coach Coffman had many returning players. With the Dons losing all of their 5 starters and coming in with a new roster, we hear about some of the challenges that Coffman is facing so far in putting the team together. Brett also asks Coach Coffman about the identity of the team and if they will continue to play in a similar style to the way the team has played in the past. We hear from Coach about some of the things that he thinks this team can do better than the previous iteration as well. Brett also asks Coach Coffman about how the team is gelling together so far in the locker room despite all being fairly new and unfamiliar with each other. All in all, it’s a great conversation for any fans of the Mastodons to listen to in preparation for the upcoming season.
