In this conversation, Whitney and Brian discuss the importance of choosing hunting partners wisely and finding people who are on the same page. They also talk about the different strategies and approaches to hunting, including backpacking deep into the backcountry versus hunting closer to the roads. Weston, Caleb and Jared made the 15 hour drive from central Florida to join Dan on his hunting properties to experience what midwestern whitetail hunting is all about. After several close encounters and first time experiences for each of the guys, the four of them discuss the differences in hunting Missouri vs. Florida. Between stories of glassing sessions, all day sits and even naps in the field this episode is one for the books. The three out of staters came in pursuit of a 120+ inch buck and left with memories they will never forget. After some serious first day action they knew this would be a trip that would happen year after year and the crew sits down to make plans for years to come. The guys also discuss the value of learning deer patterns and movement on a new chunk of property and in terrain they have never hunted before.

As the great motivational speaker, Matt Foley, once said, "you're going to live on a steady diet of government cheese, and be living in a van down by the river". And if that sounds like you right now during the whitetail rut, then congratulations, you're doing the rut right. In today's episode, Jacob shares how he was able to gain new access to private hunting ground by doing a good deed and helping a stray dog find a new situation. Also, Jacob discusses the pressure that is on maintaining hunting as a way of life. And lastly, Jacob shares some of the gear he has in his "van" in order to live over the next week or so as he bounces from 2 different pieces of public in 2 different states.

On today’s episode Jason and Joe Yoder talk a bit about the different aspects and levels of involvement when it comes to hounds and other working animals. Not everyone is cut out to be a breeder, professional handler or trainer but the important thing is that you enjoy what you can to its fullest. The love of the hounds is what keeps us all plunging into the darkness, but we as Houndsmen should be the light of encouragement for each other.
