The powerful word-picture of the seed falling into the ground and dying (John 12 verse 24) shows the significance of the death of Jesus. John goes on to indicate the way disciples are to walk in the footsteps of this self-sacrificing Jesus, and how (v 26) the church is to become fruitful as a community given to His service.

The Israelites were meant to worship God with their whole lives and so draw people into relationship with their Creator. Amos’ message spells out how they fell short but paints a picture of how we can worship God in a way that transforms the world.

Baptism marks the beginning of a new life 'in Christ', being completely identified with Christ in his death, burial and resurrection. That new life fulfils our human longings to belong to a community, to make a new start, and to have hope for the future.
