Drawing on the feeding of the 5,000, Mthr. Barbara White argues that faith is not confidence or knowledge but rather willingness: willingness to show up despite doubt and fear, willingness to hand over what little we have when Jesus asks, trusting in his faithfulness rather than the firmness of our own beliefs. She reframes the miracle not as "multiplication" but as a sign pointing to who Christ has always been—the God of abundance who feeds the hungry—inviting us to bring our whole lives—joy, doubt, grief, uncertainty, and all—to Jesus, trusting that he can do something amazing with what we offer.
