Standig Room Only: A show about the Washington Commanders and D.C. sports episodes

  • The Commanders ship be sinking?
The Athletic's Ben Standig talks Commanders-Cowboys and with receiver-turned analyst Brandon Marshall. Ben opens the show breaking down Sunday's 25-10 loss in Dallas but spends most of the time on how Washington trying to hide Carson Wentz is a new and scary concern. Thoughts on the quarterback's showing, way too many penalties, an OL change, Jon Allen's strong showing, and more. Then Ben shares his recent conversation with Marshall (22:38) on Terry McLaurin, what NFL players say about this organization, and Brandon's "I Am Athlete" podcast with LeSean McCoy coming to D.C. this week for a live taping.

  • Ross Tucker talks Commanders fixes, Cowboys week
The Athletic's Ben Standig is ready for Dallas week after talking with NFL analyst and former offensive lineman Ross Tucker, and Michael Phillips with the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Ross, an Eagles insider, offered tremendous insight on Carson Wentz through three games and concerns with the Commanders' pass protection. Also talked about Daron Payne, Jahan Dotson, and the QB plan. Then Ben and Michael chop it up after Thursday's practice as Washington prepares for Dallas. Defensive growth, the rivalry, dealing with Micah Parsons, turnovers, and predictions.

  • Jay Gruden on those nine sacks, dealing with Micah Parsons
The Athletic's Ben Standig is talking Commanders with former Washington head coach Jay Gruden. Ben opens the show with a reminder of why the team needed to seek outside help for the interior offensive line -- and he doesn't mean letting Brandon Scherff walk. Then Jay enters for a breakdown of those OL breakdowns against Philadelphia. How much on Carson Wentz, the linemen, play-calling, and what are the fixes with the Cowboys pass rush up next? Also, why can't they get Terry McLaurin the ball earlier in games, Jay's famous "guard" quote, and if the coaches move Kendall Fuller to the slot and Benjamin St-Juste outside.

  • Commanders sacked by Eagles ... and offseason choices?
The Athletic's Ben Standig and 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen reconvened after watching the Commanders' 24-8 loss to the Eagles. They did so without being sacked. Carson Wentz, not so much. The fellas discussed three of Washington's pre-season concerns that turned into issues on Sunday, including Wentz under pressure, the leaky offensive line, and limited defensive depth. They also got into that Jimmy G trade report, Scott Turner's play-calling, roster construction and potential lineup changes.

The Athletic's Ben Standig recaps the Washington Commanders' 36-27 road loss to the Detroit Lions live from Ford Field with Matt Paras (Washington Times). Plenty of talk about the defense allowing one chunk play after another and starting painfully slow in all three phases during a 22-0 first half. Also, thoughts on Carson Wentz, Jamin Davis, Daron Payne, and more injuries on both lines.

  • Jay Gruden talks Commanders

The Athletic's Ben Standig kicks off Week 2 of the NFL season with former Washington head coach -- and weekly guest this season -- Jay Gruden! We'll also hear from Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves.

Ben opens the episode with the latest from practice, including an appearance by Brian Robinson, Kam Curl's status, the new defensive lineman, and Reaves on the receiving room revolution during his five seasons.

Then it's Gruden time (12:00). Jay shares his views on Carson Wentz's debut and Washington's pass rush. He also breaks down Jahan Dotson's first touchdown catch and why Jamin Davis defended Christian Kirk at times. Plus Lions preview, Super Bowl contenders and what Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett was thinking on that end-of-game call.

(Forgot to mention in the episode that Jon Allen (groin) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, but that seems like a precaution.)
