Let's talk about the breakup heartbreaks I've experienced and how I've chosen to heal from them. Trigger warning... I do bring up a toxic relationship and how I experienced abuse but I don't go into detail, I simply bring it up! As difficult as each breakup heartbreak was in its own unique way, I am sincerely so grateful for each of them because they all contributed to who I am today. I mention in this episode that I feel it was less of me healing my heartbreaks and more so my heartbreaks healing me. I, also, mention that I don't necessarily believe in heartbreaks. In the midst of each breakup heartbreak, I honestly had my moment where I wasn't sure how I'd recover but I did. And I'm sure many of you have experienced this, too. I express that in our heartbreaks, we have two choices - to close ourselves off due to fear or to open ourselves up even more. I've always chosen to open up, and for that I am so grateful.

🎙 "You have to live life to tell films." - Sade Ndya

Moving with intention will get you far and Sade Ndya - a young, deservingly successful cinematographer recently signed to The Gersh Agency - is a prime example. It's less about becoming represented by an agency, though, and more about fostering meaningful relationships and saying yes to the projects that genuinely, creatively excite you.

Sade never waited for opportunity to come to her. She began creating films as a student and at just 19-years-old, created her own freelance production company called The Red Futon. To no surprise, experiencing a growth spurt of success just a couple of years later not only catapulted her career but, also, her confidence in what she brings to the table. 

Being young, black, and a woman on set with a big role is an adjustment for many in the film industry, especially those who've been around for a while. Sade knows this and she shares with us how she's learned to set aside her ego and why it's important to cultivate community. 

This is an inspiring conversation with a motivated, up-and-coming cinematographer who's changing the industry and impacting many - one set at a time. If you're interested in film, aspire to break into a creative field, feel like you're against the norm, are calling in success, and/or are simply seeking to be motivated - this episode is for you.

🎙️"Now I know that I can unconditionally love someone without sacrificing my love of Self." - Jocelyn

Unconditional love is greatly misunderstood. And this misunderstanding has caused so many of us to attract and remain in unhealthy relationship dynamics. We believe that because we unconditionally love someone, we must accept the harm they may cause us. This is not true.  We believe that if we set a boundary with someone we unconditionally love, we love them less. This is not true. Unconditional love does not require of you to dishonor your Self! You can unconditionally love someone with boundaries. 

In this episode, I express my gratitude for not only knowing and more greatly understanding (healthy) unconditional love but also for experiencing unconditional love as I change. I know so many of us have recently awakened to who truly (unconditionally) loves us in all our seasons, in all our versions. These people are special, special.

As spirituality grows popular, so does our need to practice discernment and respect for indigenous practices and ancient traditions. In a society and culture where quick fixes gain attention and instant gratification, it is important we remember that healing takes time, returning home to our true selves takes time, unlearning and relearning takes time. Holy Guardian, Sovereign, Lakȟóta-Norse Myranda Bennett and I expand on what reclaiming our sovereignty looks like, (especially during these times), the importance of doing shadow work first (before coming into and offering your gifts), and integrating the lessons and modalities that unfold along the way.

Myranda Bennett is the owner of Boundless Warrior and is also a High Priestess, Ritual Master, and Qabalist. Having been "doing the work" for over 20 years, Myranda is passionate in guiding others in their healing and remembering, whilst using her platform to shed light and educate others on dismantling programming, healing ancestral wounds, and fostering belief in self medicine.

In this conversation we learn more about Myranda's journey of being lost and found, experiencing death and rebirth as she restructures her life in a way that honors her divine path and purpose.

In the last conversation between you and I, I expressed my gratitude for my willingness and how willingness changed my life. One willingness I am especially grateful for is my willingness (and honestly eagerness) to have hard, honest conversations. There's so much to unpack when it comes to hard conversations. In this episode, we are unpacking quite a bit. 

Our avoidance in having hard conversations runs deep. It's not only familial but cultural and societal, too. A lot of it has to do with us growing up and progressively hiding our true selves, therefore becoming uncomfortable with the truth. A lot of it also has to do with being programmed to believe certain topics are wrong to talk about (aka taboo). I touch on both of these things in this conversation (and more) and I pray that you leave this episode feeling inspired in some way, shape, or form.

Coming into 2020, Licensed Psychologist Dr. Lydiana Garcia had a gut feeling to step back, retreat from the world, and begin pouring into her own cup. What are you willing to do? Who are you willing to be? And why?

If willingness were a job, I think it would be thankless. And by that I mean... I feel willingness doesn't get the gratitude or credit it deserves for the power it has in changing our lives! For years I've emphasized how (conscious) awareness is the first step towards growth without acknowledging that the first step towards (conscious) awareness is willingness. In order to become (consciously) aware, we have to be willing to become (consciously) aware.

In this episode, I express my sincerest gratitude for my willingness because it truly has changed my life. I am grateful I've been willing love again (and again) after heartbreak. I am grateful for the risks I've been willing to take to arrive to my successes because I believe in myself. I am grateful to have been willing to become aware of and confront my shadows because it has led to so much healing. We deserve to acknowledge our willingness because without it, where would we be?

2021 was a year of (grateful) growing pains for artist and tour manager, Jasmine Collier. Following an unpredictable year, Jasmine experienced a beyond your imagination success in the debut album drop of one of her artists, Joyce Wrice - who went on to win other major accomplishments, like performing the national anthem at the globally watched Canelo fight.

Welcome to the Starting with Gratitude podcast! This is a safe space intended to host heart-centered conversations exploring all topics of the human and spiritual experience.  

At a time where so many of us are returning back home to our authentic selves, committing to our healing, exploring the spiritual path, aspiring to fulfill our soul purpose and undergoing transformation because of it all, I know it’s important that we not only hold more safe spaces for unfiltered conversations like this but also practice gratitude. 

Consistently and intentionally practicing gratitude myself for years now has completely impacted the way I respond to life. Not only do I firmly believe there is always something to be grateful for but I also firmly believe that when we grow intimate with the feeling tone of gratefulness we are growing intimate with our true essence. We are strengthening our ability to see and feel the divine at any given moment. 

Before I dive into my conversations with our guests in this podcast, I ask them to share with us what they currently feel grateful for. When it’s a conversation between you and I, I also start our conversations with gratitude. So, should you choose to join this community, I am going to encourage you to do the same.
