Bonnets, Ari Lennox, BET Award Nominations. Whew, what gaze are we all performing for anyway? In this episode, we discuss folks pushback against Ari Lennox and her change of aesthetics, featurism, fatphobia, and desirability politics and what does that mean or does it mean anything. The BET nominations are colorist and they need to start gatekeeping Blackness forreal forreal, but there's nothing new there. And yall know we had to get in on this "bonnet debacle" and all the misogynoir it's giving. But also, are we wearing our bonnets outside? This episode Toni (@fatblackluxury) and Alexis (@fromalexisnicole) discusses things that just don't make sense and the gaslighting that often happens to Black women by the doings of Black men and how it can show up in all relationships whether it be romantic, platonic, work, or friendships. Our Make It Make Sense segment includes Miami Beach's new curfew, new developments on the COVID vaccine (Toni shares her experience getting her first dose), and #StopAsianHate standing in racial solidarity with our AAPI siblings while also holding the nuance of empathy and apathy. We talk about gaslighting off the heels of the Saweetie and Quavo breakup and how gaslighting is used to manipulate and abuse Black women into struggle love, awkward and unbeneficial situations, and the violence that gaslighting truly is. Alexis and Toni reminds Black women to know their worth and don't let these people play in your face!

This episode was then spent discussing the hypersexualization of Chloe Bailey, the attacks on her body and body autonomy, Black girls’ freedom in sexuality, pleasure, etc. We’re so over media, communities, family, friends, etc telling Black girls what to dow ith their bodies. Toni (@fatblackluxury) and Alexis (@fromalexianicole) dives into what exactly is desirability politics, how does this play a role in their lives especially dating, and how celebrities and public figures enact desirability politics to harm those who live on the margins (ie. dark skinned people, fat people, disabled people.) After giving updates on their lives from eye surgery to facials, Alexis and Toni discuss Dani Leigh’s colorist song, her remarks, and her boyfriend DaBaby gatekeeping Blackness for her. We also discuss Reginae and her relationship with YFN Lucci and society’s need for Black women to accept struggle love. They unpack the ways desirability has played a role in their dating lives and later talk through the Salt N Pepa biopic, whether or not they watched their thoughts on Spinderalla being excluded from the movie, the group, and the Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame.
