An addendum to today's podcast, as there was a turn for the much better! I had my first big test of sitting with people who were drinking and smoking for many hours. I had to get my warrior power out and battle with every bit of strength I had and...It worked! Phew!

Day 3.1

How many of you want to try sobriety for a year? How many times have you either thought this or spoken about it? Do you ever feel that you don't get enough out of the one night of craziness to justify how withdrawn you are for a few days afterwards? Do these questions re-appear all the time? Have you got friends who have really messed up and had to go to rehab or sign up for AA. Have you become a functional user of drink and drugs and so never really had to worry about it all as far as you are concerned?

Well, for me too I was all of the above. I have been really functional and class myself as extremely successful at taking drugs and drinking for over 20 years! BUT, I also have to admit that it takes its toll on me and I know it. When we had the Covid lockdown and my music industry job as a manager was practically pulverised I know I was using these things to fill a void and for the highs that I would normally feel just doing my job. I am fortunate that I could be honest with myself and see this clearly. Now in September 2020 we face yet more lockdowns and restrictions and my music world shows no signs of normality for the near future. I realise then, that I need extra special powers and have decided to go sober for a year from the 20th September 2020. 

This podcast will chart my daily feelings of the journey. There are plenty of rehab spaces and AA groups out there. But I didn't really fancy those. as I have made this decision before anyone else could. But I feel empowered enough and experienced in life enough that I know what I need to do to have a successful adventure in sobriety. However, I thought documenting it would be great. Having written the book 'Staying Sane In The Music Game' and produced podcasts for people in the music game, I realised that I could use the StayingSane.org banner for this as it is related. 

So, I have decided to start a daily podcast and report in on how I am finding things and speak about my journey, with foresight and insight. 

I hope you enjoy the journey and I overtime no doubt, be posting things on the StayingSane.org website that inspire me a long the way.
