Ever look at your bank account and feel that squeeze of fear? In this one-part episode of Step Out & Thrive, I sit down with author and coach Belinda Terro Mooney to talk about shifting from scarcity panic to steady, faith-led action.
Belinda shares her story of growing up poor in rural Louisiana, rebuilding life as a single mom, and what it looks like to ask God for a plan, then work the plan. You’ll hear how she faced a “poverty mindset” moment, picked up the phone, weathered the no’s, and launched a writing membership that filled — including one member who paid for the full year up front. We also walk through a simple interactive appreciation practice you can use when fear spikes and you need to find your footing with God again.
If you’re a coach, counselor, pastor, high-capacity parent, or anyone who carries a lot for others, this conversation will give you oxygen, perspective, and a next step.

Scarcity loses power when you pray for a plan and then work the plan with small, consistent steps.
Sales can be ministry when you lead with care, clarity, and permission to say no.
Interactive appreciation helps your nervous system settle so you can hear God again.
Community multiplies momentum — don’t do this season alone.
Provision often meets motion: show up, serve, follow up, and watch doors open.

Welcome back to the Step Out & Thrive Podcast. I’m your host, Bethany B. Joy, and this episode is part of my series, The Stories We Tell Ourselves.
Today’s story: The body I didn’t choose.
I’m answering three powerful questions from friends:
To get there, I share one of my most-requested stories: the day outside the orthodontist’s office when I tripped on the sidewalk, hit my knees hard, and replayed the doctor’s words in my mind: your hearing and vision are both decreasing, and we don’t know how far it will go.
Flat on the ground, in pain and in shock, I looked up and saw an enormous rainbow reflected in the glass. In that moment, I sensed God inviting me to do something I didn’t want to do: not just “see” beauty in the middle of the loss, but chase it.
Underneath it all, I was wrestling with this lie:
“My disability makes me a burden. My limitations mean I’m failing at life.”
In this episode, we talk about:
A couple of key reframes:
Short timeline:
Question for you:
What if your limitation is actually the place God plans to lead others through? What would change?
I’d love to hear your response in the episode Q&A, by text, or wherever you follow along.
Next steps & community:
If you long for a place where you don’t have to hide your limitations or be “the strong one” all the time:

ver keep a dream on the back burner for months (or years)? In this finale, I (Bethany Joy) let Coach Albert Pellissier coach me live on my own stuck project—my book. We dig into why “not enough time” isn’t the true block, what Knot Therapy is, and how a simple burner buddy practice can melt resistance in 7–14 days.
You’ll learn how to name the real fears (the ones that only show up once the project succeeds), shrink them with a 10-minute daily ritual, and take compassionate micro-steps—without becoming a “super version” of yourself.

⏱️ Outline & Timestamps
0:00 – Welcome back (Part 4) and who this space is for: deeper, safer conversations
1:08 – Who’s Albert Pellissier? (coach for blocks to dreams/calling)
2:05 – Bethany gets real: the “back burner” book confession
3:05 – Step 1: Name your “damn good reasons” (time, kids, tech/process)
6:21 – The real reason you’re stuck: a protective inner part says “not a good idea”
7:32 – Future-cast exercise: “Now that the book is done… what bothers me?”
8:24 – Post-success fears: money spent, clients lost, speaking tour pressure, inevitable typos
11:04 – Why those hidden, self-centered fears win (they’re learned from past pain)
13:02 – What’s actually true vs. what your nervous system remembers
13:26 – Phase 1 of Knot Therapy: the daily list + burner buddy
15:00 – Exactly what to say (script) and the one job of the buddy
17:53 – What changes by day 4–8: the bar lowers; micro-actions appear
20:46 – Example micro-action: choosing a writing tool and turning off distractions
22:43 – Connecting a current fear to an old story (and why that matters)
25:15 – Workshop story: 67-year-old’s fifth-grade block → life reset
27:07 – Why this takes days, not an hour (and how God meets us in the unhurried)
28:07 – Side effect: burner buddies often become real friends
29:02 – How this deepened Albert’s own marriage (and why it bonds groups)
30:10 – Bethany’s community vision: deeper connection > doing more
31:22 – How to get worksheets, the book, or bring Albert to your group
33:03 – Final invite: don’t do this alone—download, buddy up, begin
Your “good reasons” aren’t the real reasons. The blocker is usually a protective inner part guarding you from future pain.
Name the post-success fears. “Now that it’s done, what bothers me?” puts the actual knots on paper.
Do 10 minutes a day for 7–14 days. Read your list aloud to a burner buddy; they only say “Thank you for sharing.”
Let the bar drop. You don’t need to become “more disciplined”; the obstacle shrinks as it’s spoken.
Take micro-steps. One small decision (tool, time block, first paragraph) is how momentum is born.
Do it in community. This work bonds people fast—and keeps you from quitting.

We talk reframing your work, healing the inner conflicts that quietly sabotage progress, learning to sell as service, and building systems that free your time so you can pour into people.

Reframe before you replace. The work you have may become the work you love.
Do the inner work. Most stuck points trace back to unseen inner conflict.
Sell as service. If it helps them, it’s loving to invite investment.
Design for scale. Build systems that free you to serve people.
Don’t do it alone. Let mentors pour into you while you pour into others.

Security is an illusion when it’s built on control; stewardship + faith are sturdier.
Reframing (changing your frame of reference) can transform the same job into a new calling.
