What happens when a child learns that being vulnerable isn't safe?
In this episode of STILL YOU, we're diving deep into the childhood wound of Enneagram Type 8, the Challenger—the child who learned far too early that they needed to be strong, independent, and ready to protect themselves.
We'll explore where the Eight's intense need for control, autonomy, and strength can come from, including experiences of betrayal, rejection, instability, unfairness, and having to grow up too quickly. We'll talk about why some Eights become the “problem child,” why they may develop a tough exterior, and how the belief that “no one is going to control me” can become a lifelong defense mechanism.
But underneath all that strength is a part of the Eight that still wants something incredibly human: to feel safe enough to trust, soften, receive love, and let someone else in.
We'll explore how the Type 8 childhood wound can show up in adulthood through relationships, anger, control, independence, conflict, boundaries, and difficulty asking for help. And most importantly, we'll talk about what healing can actually look like for an Eight.
Because the goal isn't for Eights to become softer versions of themselves.
It's learning that strength and vulnerability can exist at the same time.
You don't have to lose your power to let someone love you.
And you don't have to keep your armor on forever.
This is the journey back to yourself.
