  • HPE Lifts Sales Forecast, Snowflake Jumps on Revenue, Broadcom Slips

    Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market.

    On this episode of Stock Movers:

    - HPE (HPE) boosted its sales outlook for this fiscal year and next, saying artificial intelligence workloads are driving demand for servers and networking gear. The shares were little changed in extended trading after closing at $51.82 in New York. The stock has more than doubled this year.

    - Snowflake (SNOW) gained in extended trading after the company raised its outlook for annual sales, topping analysts’ estimates, and touted rapid adoption of its AI-assisted coding tool. The shares jumped more than 20% in extended trading after closing at $305.84. The stock had climbed 39% this year through the close.

    - Broadcom (AVGO) predicted a boom in artificial intelligence chip sales over the next two years, helping renew optimism that it can challenge Nvidia Corp.’s dominance in the lucrative market. AI chip revenue will double to about $115 billion in fiscal 2027 and soar to $230 billion the following year, Chief Executive Officer Hock Tan said during a conference call. The company also is on track to top earnings of $30 a share in fiscal 2028, outpacing Wall Street estimates. The shares rebounded from an earlier decline after Tan gave the guidance.

Shares of GE Vernova rallied in trading on Wednesday. 
    • HPE (HPE) boosted its sales outlook for this fiscal year and next, saying artificial intelligence workloads are driving demand for servers and networking gear. “We are turning exceptional demand into durable profitable growth,” Chief Executive Officer Antonio Neri said in an interview. Shares of HPE rose in postmarket trading.

  • Uber to Cut 3,300 Jobs, PG&E Falls, Sphere Gains on Raised Price Target

    Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market.

    On this episode of Stock Movers:

    - Uber Technologies (UBER) is higher after cutting about 3,300 roles, or 10% of its staff globally, in a massive restructuring aimed at reducing management layers and reallocating spending into its ride-sharing, delivery and robotaxi businesses. The stock is down 6% YTD.

    - PG&E (PCG) plans to defer about $2 billion of investments next year as part of a strategic review of its businesses, a move that comes after it said a proposed revamp of California’s wildfire response didn’t do enough to protect the company and its peers from the cost of such disasters.

    - Sphere Entertainment (SPHR) shares rose as much as 4.5% on Wednesday after Guggenheim raised the price target on the company to a Street-high $208 from $193. Analyst Curry Baker says SPHR shares have been under pressure the last two weeks due to soft August Ticketmaster data and weak August tourism in the Las Vegas market

    - Dell (DELL) shares jumped after the company boosted its annual sales forecast by $25 billion due to surging demand for servers to run artificial intelligence tasks.     - Eos Energy (EOSE) shares rise after the company, MN8 Energy and Alphabet’s Google announced a project that will use 10 MW of Eos’ zinc-based energy storage products. The collaboration will deliver a combined 86 MW of solar, 10 MW of zinc-based long-duration energy storage and 70 MW of lithium-ion energy storage in West Virginia.
