Investors may need to practice more patience next year and look elsewhere for opportunity, with share markets unlikely to recover recent losses for at least another 12 months. 

That's according to Fisher Funds chief investment officer Ashley Gardyne. He joins Madison Reidy on the final episode of Continuous Disclosure for 2022, looking back at the last year in markets and investments, the lessons learned over the last 12 months, and what lies in store for 2023.

The Reserve Bank recently raised the Official Cash Rate by 75 basis points to 4.25 per cent - the highest rate since 2008. 

The move is intended to target rising inflation and curb back spending, but it has big consequences for anyone with a floating mortgage rate.

KiwiSaver has grown to be worth more than $90 billion but much of that money is invested in foreign companies.

The reason for that is diversification. As investors we don't want all our eggs in one basket - investing all of our money in New Zealand would leave us highly exposed to our small country and its fortunes.

"Green finance" has become something of a corporate buzz phrase in recent years, as banks and governments increasingly link debt products to sustainability initiatives. 

The New Zealand Government is even planning to issue "green bonds" later this year, that will see it promise investors debt raised will be used for green investments. And this week, Kiwibank announced it will launch a sustainable loan product for businesses on September 26.
