Cryptocurrency markets have plunged this year as confidence in markets as a whole has plummeted with rising interest rates, high inflation and the threat of recession.

In the US, three companies in the cyptocurrency space have gone bankrupt in the past three weeks and others are cutting back on staff as they face a fall in the amount of money investors are ploughing in.

But the death of digital currencies has been called before - so are we reading too much into this collapse?

Supply chain issues are continuing to cause headaches for many Kiwi exporters, with Covid lockdowns and inflation continuing to create havoc.

NZ company Skellerup Holdings does a lot of manufacturing in China and distributes all over the world, so chief executive David Mair is well placed to offer some insight into the supply chain crunch that's adding costs everywhere.

The good news is that Mair believes things are about as tough as they'll get for supply chains - with some signs of pressure easing.

The bad news is that he doesn't see inflation easing fast.
