You might not know his name, but if you’re a comedy record collector, he’s a name to remember. A man after my own heart, with a love of Hollywood history as rich as his love of rare and interesting Comedy, Jeff Abraham takes me into his comedy record vault and we listen to some doozies. All local comedians who you’ve likely never heard of, I can only apologize for their lack of polish. With one special exception at the end, which is neither exclusively local nor unheard of.

Matt Buchholtz was the first person I interviewed for my documentary Lords of Soaptown in 2008. He’s also hilarious, does a ton of great sketch comedy, and is part of the Crit Juice podcast, which you don’t need to be a D&D person to enjoy thoroughly. It’s great. He wanted to talk some more about a Bill Cosby album we haven’t touched on yet. Smart move.

Ben Acker is partially responsible for one of the best live shows in LA, The Thrilling Adventure Hour, as well as the podcast of the same name/partial content. He was kind enough to sit down with me TWO MONTHS AGO to talk about Bruce McCulloch of Kids in the Hall and his album “Shame-Based Man,” an art-house comedy piece by a mainstream, yet brilliant, comedy writer.

Oh, and if you want to see Jason and his new wife (pre-marriage) in Rachel Bloom’s “Jazz Fever,” click these words.
Rachel Bloom is back! This time, we delve into her influences as we discuss her album, “Please Love Me.” I won’t stop raving about it, so don’t stop me. I love the shit out of it, and I was lucky enough to be an extra in the video for “Jazz Fever.” It was a ton of fun doing this episode – so enjoy!

This week, the incredibly awesome DC Pierson drinks out of my stein and indulges my pretentious side by humoring me. We have a great time talking about how awesome Barenaked Ladies are/were, and what it’s like to obsess over something as a kid.

Psych episode number 2 is here! I was fortunate enough to head over to the Psych offices in Manhattan Beach to discuss “Wild and Crazy Guy” with Psych creator Steve Franks. We talk about similarities between the two Steves, a bit about Psych, donut shops and a weird Coke machine. Enjoy!

Raise your hands if you like The Critic, Futurama, The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson and The Muppets Tonight. This week’s guest is Patric Verrone, who wrote for ALL of those things, and is also a former president of the WGA West. We talk about Woody Allen, the Harvard Lampoon and writing comedy in general. I had a blast. And Bender was there.

This week I talk with the insanely talented Sara Pocock! You need to look at her art – she draws a lot of comedians and illustrates some great characters from podcasts (Fourvel from Comedy Bang Bang! being a personal favorite). We talk about Paul F. Tompkins, the fact that she’s WAY more a live comedy nerd than I am, and what it’s like to work with the comedians you admire.

This week I talk with Psych’s own Timothy Omundson about Flip Wilson’s “The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress,” as well as some Psych talk and what it’s like to be a funny person who didn’t study comedy like a crazy nerd.
