  • Hotel Pillow Fort

The Texas Chapter of Stolendroids is once again in session, but this time things get weird really fast. But honestly, how is that any different from our other shows? This episode though is a perfect example of why Collin should never go more than 47 hours without sleep. Once hour 48 hits, there's no telling what will happen.

Some things are predictable though. For example, fans are upset about stuff. Also, Microsoft is taking shots at Apple and #hackzohner is sadly still very much a thing. Listen to the tales of woe from the pillow fort we made in Collin's hotel room and be amazed that I haven't had to nuke my identity and start over.

  • Everything's Spoilers

Decade-old spoilers abound as the Texas Chapter of Stolendroids is called to order. Collin takes a trip to The Lone Star State only to learn that he needs to avoid anything with multiple legs that crawls on the ground. This includes chiggers, rabbits, and whatever it was that attempted to rush him as he walked outside. (A chupacabra perhaps?) Thankfully he survived his near-fatal attack so that we could discuss some of what came out of San Diego Comic-Con, specifically Marvel's Phase 4 news from outside my daughter's princess tent. (Spoiler warning: We couldn't fit inside.)

That's not all we talk about though. Prepare to not be surprised as you learn that Alan Moore doesn't like yet another Hollywood adaptation of one of his works. He has a history of placing curses on projects that he disapproves of but I have a suggestion for him. I think in this case it would be more effective to buy everyone involved in HBO's Watchmen a chili cheese Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Doing that would shut down production for at least a week and there are no messy curses to deal with. However, DQ may be charged with crimes against humanity.

  • Nightmare Fuel

If there's one thing that the Internet loves it's cat videos. Note that I said "cat videos," not "Cats videos." There is a big difference there. While there are some people who enjoy those types of videos, they are what we would consider wrong. They also probably need very intense counseling. On the other hand, if you have a friend who is afraid of cats, the trailer for Cats is the perfect video to send as a prank. After which they will probably need very intense counseling. Either way, mental health professionals win and everyone else (except for furries) lose. I do believe though that we may have been too harsh with Sonic the Hedgehog.

  • Disney's Dongle

In an ironic turn of events, Apple's "It just works" slogan from years ago became "Nope" as the hard drive on Collin's Mac failed. That's okay though. It's nothing that a trip to the Apple Store and $4,000 won't fix. Unfortunately, it decided to die as we were testing our microphones meaning this episode is all Zohner. (We apologize in advance.)

  • Collin's Rabbit Hole

Do you know how every now and then you witness something that you really don't want to see yet you can't turn away from it? Collin decided that given some of our recent conversations regarding Texas chiggers that he needed to do some image searches that took us to some terrible places. Places full of images that cannot be unseen and will forever haunt our dreams. We apologize in advance, but it's seriously like the most horrific accident that you simply can't turn away from. This is one rabbit hole that you probably don't want to venture down. You've been warned.

In less disturbing news, Nintendo is bringing another game to mobile platforms. Dr. Mario World will soon be available. Will it hold up to the original? Only time will tell but too much cell phone time is apparently causing humans to develop horns so let's hope it's not too addictive.

Also, DC Comics is ending their Vertigo imprint which has some fans pretty upset. They aren't so upset that they've petitioned Marvel Comics to cancel anything though. They're leaving the misdirected outrage petitions to people who are upset with Amazon's Good Omens. But I think as long as Netflix doesn't cancel Stranger Things we'll be okay. Especially since the Raspberry Pi 4 just had a surprise release.

  • Water is Wet

Saying that Amazon's Echo devices are recording what they hear, i.e. what you say, is like saying water is wet. How else are they supposed to be able to do what they do? To have a device that is voice activated that doesn't know what your voice sounds like or actually listen for when it's being addressed is simply absurd. Almost as absurd as the idea of buying said device then suing the manufacturer because it does what it does. Is it as absurd though as buying a ticket to a theme park only to stand in line ALL DAY only to spend three minutes on one ride? You tell us.

  • Better Late Than Never

First off, let me apologize for the delay in releasing this week's episode. How does the saying go? Being tardy is better than not at all? But we're simple folk here so let's go with "better late than never." Sometimes life just throws stuff at you that you can't avoid. Like a litter of puppies. Or a football to the groin, metaphorically speaking of course. Seriously though, it's been a rough week. We truly appreciate your patience.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk about Justin Bieber and his apparent anger issues. The Biebs needs to chill though because challenging action movie stars to fights is a good way to get messed up. And speaking of messed up, did you see X-Men: Dark Phoenix? No? Apparently, neither did anyone else. There's a movie with some problems...

If you want to see some serious problems though, look no further than Warner Bros. and DC. Their streaming service, DC Universe is a hot mess that appears to be on its last leg. And Samsung still hasn't released the Galaxy Fold. But it's coming, they just won't say when.

In happier news though, there's some cool stuff that came out of E3 and Waze, everyone's favorite navigation app, finally got Google Assistant integration!

  • Sketchy Motel Apples

Sometimes the inmates get to run the asylum. This is one of those times.

While I was traveling across the country in a giant moving truck, Jake and Collin stepped up and managed to record a pretty solid episode of Stolendroids Podcast. It's good to know that had I actually met an untimely end in one of the sketchiest motels I've ever seen that someone could fill in for me long-term until I "got better."

Seriously though, who removes the deadbolt, the door chain, and the smoke detector? Probably the same person that decided it was a good idea to affix the air conditioner to the wall with duct tape. It's a miracle I'm still alive...

  • AI Gets Sniderlickus

Sometimes the show before the show is just as entertaining as the show itself. That happened to be the case this week as I stumbled across multiple articles discussing how sex robots are "indistinguishable" from their human counterparts thanks to a 5G upgrade. We decided not to include this topic in the show because some of us (all of us) have a tendency to behave like twelve-year-olds. Of course, Collin had to then mention that his car's AI seems to have "a thing" for Tom whose first appearance on Stolendroids Podcast was so amazing that we decided to invite him back for an encore performance. Things devolved from there.

Thankfully, we were able to get some serious conversations in about the Pandora's Box that may have been opened by redesigning Sonic the Hedgehog before the movie is released in November. Of course, such a move comes with repercussions so if you're barely able to contain your excitement to see the character hit the silver screen, you're going to have to wait a bit longer. And speaking of video game adaptations, there are rumors that a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic film is in the works. It's generally accepted that movies based on video games aren't very good, but I think it's a safe bet that this is one that Star Wars fans will see regardless. And since it's Star Wars, it probably won't be much of a disaster. Even Solo was a pleasant surprise. Enough so that some people are hoping for a sequel.

In tech news, Google is both good and bad this week. So not much is different... They're making it easier for you to order food which is good since you need extra time to reset passwords that they stored in plain text. For fourteen years! Seriously. Fourteen. Years. Also, Samsung can't catch a break, but their phones can.

  • Bald Love

I know that it's more complicated than this, but basically, chaos theory states that a small change at a starting position can lead to large, unpredictable changes over time. That pretty much sums up this episode.

As I'm preparing to move to Texas, Collin got a whole bunch of guests to join in on the fun at Watchtower Cafe. Joining us this week are the team from Movies That Make Us, Rachel from Create Loud (which isn't a Stolendroids show but she's our friend so she's always welcome), and a few of our writers: Tom and Justin. Mike, the proprietor of Watchtower also makes an appearance. (Thanks to him for letting us take over part of his place. Be sure to check out their Kickstarter campaign to help fund their new location.)

Despite the fact that the show comes off the rails repeatedly, we do manage to discuss angry fans, Batman casting rumors, Game of Thrones, Disney, and Marvel.

Again though, chaos theory. Hopefully, you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it.
