Early in my work life I channeled all of my curiosity and desire to create into my first love - music. At some point along the way, having already experienced many of the ups and downs of the artist life, I found myself still wanting to create but in a new medium - one that might chart a meaningful yet more stable journey. Software development came to me at the right time as the most fitting answer. While I find it to be challenging at times, I am fascinated by the art, the scope, and the real life application of it. I have also found that it is a world big and wide enough to find one’s own space in and the most logical new place for me to park my curiosity.

After some research and careful thought I chose to enroll at NSS. I joined Cohort 35 and began my journey into software development. Over the next six months I learned foundational concepts including data types, data structure, OOPS principles and small words like scrum master and azure environment. One of the greatest things I took away from this course was how to think like a developer and break down problems to their smallest component. With a little patience, a ton of coffee and the help of a few amazing teachers I was able to learn so much about Full-stack development. I look forward to the future and what this great community and career has to offer.

I came to coding from the world of library science. My personal background includes over 10 years of working with library technology to deliver needed information to the people who need it. I see web development as a furtherance of my work with library catalogs. My history as a cataloger has prepared me for the kind of attention to detail required in programming. I love the challenges of code, and the magic of seeing something I have written successfully rendered on a website.

I am a growth-minded extrovert who takes my work more seriously than I take myself. Hearing feedback from clients and users has been a large Influence into why I was compelled to learn more about the world of user experience and design. Simply put, I believe you cannot have a thriving business if you don’t listen to your customer's needs, desires, and pain-points. Being able to empathize with the end-user is one of my greatest strengths. How to couple this thought process and compile an aesthetically pleasing yet very useful website is the complexity of the UX/UI world that I love.

It was as a graphic design intern that I had my first encounter with web development. I witnessed a hastily crafted mock-up design of mine go from a Photoshop file being used as a wireframe to an implemented and functioning webpage. Feeling as though there were opportunities to be discovered on the creative side of the tech field, I decided to venture into the world of web development and UI/UX. It wasn't until I decided to pursue additional education through Nashville Software School that I discovered just how much I enjoyed the "puzzle solving" aspect of writing code.

After creating Blushs' website and re-sparking my love for coding, I knew I had to pursue web development. With the help of knowledgeable instructors and the amazing learning environment provided at Nashville Software School, I know I was wrong and my peak is a long time yet to come!
