I am a stickler for data accuracy because there is responsibility in using data to influence decision making. I love to use my analytical, problem solving skills and creativity to present information in palatable ways for my audience to consume. I have experience working in positions where extracting, transforming, and reporting information were an important part of the job.

While we all know just how important data is to business and the world, it can be hard to find ways to present that information in a meaningful and digestible way. I'm the kind of person that loves to understand why something is happening, why it matters, and how I can help others understand as well. My background in sales and customer service gives me the perspective of what matters to both businesses and consumers, and marrying those skills with data analytics has allowed me to communicate complex ideas and information to a variety of audiences. I can not only work with the data, I can present the findings and bring value to both the enterprise and the final client.

We all wrestle with data, but wrestling is what got me into data. I picked up a copy of Freakonomics in 2004, and the book's exposé on corruption in sumo wrestling showed me that math could move mountains. I've pursued truth in numbers in previous chapters of my life, and the Data Analytics bootcamp at Nashville Software School has added tools to make my curiosity more actionable.

As a natural storyteller, I have always sensed how truth (as data) underlies good stories. Now that I am a data analyst, I have learned how to tease a cogent story out of a complex dataset, then present that story in a relatable, easy-to-digest way.

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to work in a field that would help people. Initially I thought the plan was to become a Financial Planner, but after some time in the financial field I decided to take a leap of faith and swap career paths into Data Analytics. To me, data analysts are not just there to explain data to business professionals, they are also there to help make decisions to better the company which, in turn, helps employees potentially earn more and be more successful in their careers.
