Throughout college, programming became the glue for personal multimedia projects. More and more, technology has opened new possibilities by automating workflows. Deconstructing things, learning how they work, then reconstructing them have been the main tools for problem solving real world issues.

My experience and success in the advertising sales business has taught me that I enjoy working with other people and thrive when faced with a challenge. I decided to make the switch to software engineering because I love the process of creating things based off of ideas and appreciate the logic behind coding. I've really enjoyed the challenge of constantly learning in such a dynamic field and contributing in a group setting to solve a common problem.

Software development is a career field I wanted to pursue for over 20 years. I began college as a Computer Science major; however, I decided to go into Social Work. After a rewarding career in Social Work, I decided to pursue my passion of becoming a Software developer. Software development gives me the opportunity to work with clients and mentor others as I increase my developer skills. I chose Nashville Software School because of its intense training model, diversity and business relationship with the professional technical community.

I am an engineer, a teacher, and am now moving into software development after being inspired during an Engineers Without Borders project. A jack of all trades and master of some! Ever since I began my 12-year career in digital marketing I have always been fascinated with the web development aspect of bringing digital assets to life. How was it that a developer can take a wire frame, graphic representation, and set of desired outcomes and bring it to life on the web? Making the decision to become a full stack developer has been more rewarding than I ever expected. I'm confident my marketing experience combined with my new skills as a developer will be beneficial to any organization I join.

My first foray into coding began at the age of 13. I spent hours upon hours clumsily picking through code attempting to interpret the lines and lines of abstruse text. The ability to create with this strange new language fascinated me. Years later, during my freshman year of college, I enrolled in my first computer science course. While this course served as my first official introduction to the true magic of coding, my path ultimately led me elsewhere. However, I eventually found my way back to computer programming. Everyday, I rediscover how challenging, yet fun, writing code can be.

As a new graduate of NSS, I've learned to utilize my skills as a previous collegiate athlete to instill discipline and iterative improvement within my personal software development. I'm expanding upon my current knowledge of different programming languages by attending local coding meetups and completing independent personal projects. I enjoy the continuous cycle of learning and mentoring amongst my peers as both a software engineer and an active soccer coach.

I've lived my entire life around computers and I've always been fascinated with what they can do and the enthralling ways in which they can be used. While much of my earlier years were focused on music, my passion for technology has always been there. That's why I attended UNCA for computer science, but after 1.5 years, I realized I wanted a more hands on approach to my learning. I am excited to take my skills and become a strong contributing member to a dev team.
