I got into coding this past year when my guitar teacher talked to me about coding in a lesson, about how a programmer's job is, essentially, describing reality to a machine. Being a long-time private guitar teacher myself, I am sensitive to the deeper understanding required of something in order to each it, and I became excited at the realization that a career in programming would, by necessity, draw me into a deeper understanding of reality. I consider myself a life-long student, and enjoy the nuances and complexities of software development.

Curt Cato graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 33.

Before beginning my career in software development, I had a career in the commercial construction industry. I worked as a superintendent, supervising and managing multiple projects at a time around Nashville. After about a decade in the construction industry, I decided to make a change. I decided to enter the technology industry as a developer; something I had been contemplating for several years. This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made, and I would not take it back for anything!

Jake Scott graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 33.

I have always been a mix of creative and analytical and have aspired to find a career where this duality co-exists. As a business owner and fabricator, I was able to explore my creativity and pore over details and strategy, but the small scale auto repair industry left me wanting more. As a software developer, I am now able to bring my analytical and creative mindset together in a harmonious way.

Matthew McDevitt graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 33.

What gets me out of bed in the morning is facing problems and developing solutions. I started out freelance developing WordPress sites for friends and non-profits, and enjoyed these projects. However, after learning about the technical structure, I knew I wanted to build my own apps from the ground up. Nashville Software School has given me the skills to create my own applications and the chance to be a part of the Nashville tech community.

Krystal Gates graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 33.

Professional carpenter turned software developer. I am a fast and passionate learner. After years of hard physical labor, I decided that a career shift was necessary. All my research pointed towards software development, as many of the skills overlap with my background in construction such as creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and clear communication. Both emphasize good design principles and delivering a quality end result. Now I’m exchanging that hammer for a keyboard, and I couldn’t be happier.

Emily Loggins graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 32.

For a music major fresh out of undergraduate school, development was an exciting new challenge. It’s empowering to know that I am able to utilize the same creative and quantitative thinking that I used during my music career. Development has changed the way that I problem solve in the real world, and has made me a firm believer in the power of consistent, challenging, mental stimulation. It’s a privilege to get to open my laptop and create every day.

Nate Fleming graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 32.

After many years in the music and restaurant industries I was looking for a new creative outlet that caters to my interests and personality. I took a few coding courses online and discovered very quickly that it is the perfect fit for me. This led me to enrolling at Nashville Software School where I continued to develop my passion for software engineering. I hope to take these skills to start a rewarding career in the tech world and make applications that can help others any way I can.

From engineering to full-stack software development, I have carried a passion for technology throughout my life. With my brother's encouragement and example as a Senior Developer, I found a way to combine creativity with logic; and decided to dive into the industry myself. From an industry with endless learning opportunities, I hope to contribute to the innovative world of development.

I was first exposed to programming through my work in digital marketing, where the basic coding I did became my favorite part of the work day. A friend told me about Nashville Software School's web development jumpstart course, and after three whirlwind weeks there, I was hooked. I fell in love with the way coding incorporates creativity, logic, and endless learning opportunities. I enrolled in an NSS bootcamp soon after and am truly excited to pursue a career in a field I love.

Deep Patel graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 32.

I moved to the United States in 2017 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering excited to embark on a new life and adventure. I love new challenges and was eager to search for new ways to expand my skill set beyond that of mechanical engineering. I knew I had gained the ability to solve problems and think critically through my degree and with my new path in software development, I get to take these skills to another level. I am excited about my new career path as a software developer!
