Lewis set his sights on the coal fields of West Virginia, Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia, and the mine owners responded with force.

On this episode, Rod and Steve tell the story of the mine operators’ use of the Baldwin-Felts agency to remove fired union miners from their homes and the response of the police chief of Matewan, West Virginia, which ended in a gun battle and, eventually, to the Battle of Blair Mountain.
