On the morning of 9/11 I stood in a New York City classroom. Standing Memory is about this experience and can be found I my memoir Wildflowers and Present Tenses.
In this episode, I read the story Standing Memory to commemorate this day.

I had planned to focus on stories about deep woo and people who are on unique spiritual journeys this year, but it turns out our world has gone cray cray and so have most spiritual communities.
In this episode I give an update on the projects I'm doing that are keeping me sane and give a brief book review of Melissa Febos's book Body Work, about writing memoirs. While I agree with Febos that the writing process, especially when writing a memoir, is a healing process, I do not agree that the only way for marginalized people to write meaningful memoirs is through the framework of social justice. That's just cray cray.

I had the rare privilege of getting to know the real "Miss Cleo" between 2007 - 2013 when we were friends. One of the most important lessons I learned was how ignorant and intolerant we are in the West about the spiritual practices of other cultures and parts of the world. Cleo was a voodoo priestess, not a psychic, for starters. My guest in this podcast is esoteric scholar David Ellis, who adds his wealth of real history and esoteric knowledge to my personal account.
It is important to note that as of the date of this podcast there are two separate production companies creating documentaries about the late Miss Cleo. I am working with one of them in the hopes that a truer story, a story with compassion and humanity, will finally be told. In my book Wildflowers and Present Tenses, a memoir and anthology, the story "Coffee with Cleo and Company" recounts the story of our unusual friendship. You can find my books at pattiluciawrites.com.

Patti shares her end-of-the-year reflection on 2021 and announces a new and exciting direction for Story Bridge in the coming year. This podcast has focused in its first year, on the power of story telling and the gap that often exists between the lives we live and the stories we tell. In this bold, new direction for 2022, Patti focuses on stories of spirit, the mystical and the woo, and posits that these stories may be more real than the current crumbling narratives of our reality. Sound intriguing? Stay tuned for upcoming Story Bridge interviews in 2022!

Patti explores the pitfalls and dark underbelly of the academic study of sustainability with former doctoral student Saif Juarez Burke. How could it be that studies in how to take better care of the planet leave the planet out? Why are the "enemies" of a cleaner planet ordinary people and not corporations? Has the sustainability movement been politically captured in academia? How will we re- right (write) this story?

Patti spends time again with Liv Mokai Wheeler, a voice diviner for the Kontomble. They discuss Liv's book "With the Love of the Ancients, My Journey of Remembering". If you have not listened to her previous conversation with Liv, you may want to listen to that episode (11) first as this is a continuation. Patti and Liv continue their conversation about the "Little People" - where they are from and their role on Earth - and other topics like trees, spiritual naivete, protection and the current moment through which humanity is living.

In this episode, released 20 years to the day after the events of September 11, 2001, my guest, a soldier and humanitarian, tells the story of his time in Iraq and Afghanistan in the years that followed 9/11. This is particularly special to me because he is also my dear cousin, Randy. Randy and I explore the stories told about such wars and the stories lived by soldiers and citizens on the ground.

In Episode 10, my guest, Liv Mokai Wheeler, shares the story of how she became the voice for "The Little People", also known as the Kontomble or as leprechaun, elves or fairies, depending on the region or culture. In western cultures, The Little People are seen as a fiction, but in cultures all around the world They are as real as you and I. I happen to be a believer.
Liv Mokai Wheeler is an Initiated Kontomble Voice Diviner, as well as a Ritual Facilitator. She's tended to a relationship with the Otherworld for the past 15 years. She published her first book, With the Love of the Ancients: My Spiritual Journey of Remembering (2018), and produced a full-length feature documentary, The Remembering, filmed in Mongolia and released in 2019. In 2019, Liv also created the Kontomble Medicine School, Earth’s Amulet. From the wellsprings of this school came an Earth’s Amulet Certification Program in 2020 and a Heart-Centered Shamanic Healing School that was created for 2021.
