Story Brigade: Matinee

"Motor City, 1920"

Grab your trench coats and load your tommy guns, because we're going back to the mean streets of Detroit! This episode Gangster films meet Neo-Western and becomes one of my favorite films we've done so far!

"James Bond: Scars Never Fade"

What a doozy of an episode! This was a tough nut to crack - Contemporary James Bond meets Christopher Nolan! I mean how do you even do that without it just being Tenet? That's what we aim to find out on this episode - and boy do we!!!

"It Came From Florida!"

What's this?! Two Story Brigade Specials in a row! Impossible! Well, in case you didn't know, November 3rd is GODZILLA DAY! (It's also Election Day, so make sure you go out and vote!)

On this episode we have an old friend from college, Kamron Shushtar, who, I think we can safely say, is a Godzilla super-fan! So on this episode we get an exciting clash of Godzilla meets Political Thriller! (Then it just goes overboard when we start talking about Florida).

You can check out all of the Godzilla posters we were mentioning by CLICKING HERE.

And you can check out Kamron's podcast SUTRO SIDETALK on SPOTIFY, APPLE PODCASTS, GOOGLE PODCASTS and SOUNDCLOUD!

"Shiverin' Timbers: The Billy Bones Trilogy"

Welcome to the SPOOKY BRIGADE! This is our Halloween special with our most haunted friend and author - Alex Giannini! Halloween meets Swashbuckling in this incredible TRILOGY episode! Check out Shiverin' Timbers, Shiverin' Timbers II: Davy Jones' Locker, and Shiverin' Timbers III: The Perfect Storm.

I'm not a huge fan of slasher films - but I would SO make these.

Watchlist: Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween (2018), Friday the 13th (1980), Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)

Apologies for the audio quality throughout - for some reason Connor decided to go for a drive.

"As Above, So Below"

Okay. Yes we know this title is from a 2014 horror film, but in "made-up time", our film came out back in 1920s Germany, so the 2014 one is actually the film copying our title. Obviously.

Anyway, this is Dystopian meets German Expressionism. It's bold, daring and a little contentious. All the ingredients for a classic film.

"Edgar Wright's A Fistful of Whales"

Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy meets Spaghetti Western!!! Yeah you heard that right!!! We're joined by film professor, and one of Connor's old college friends, Hannah Hamalian!

Here are a couple things she recommended:

The trailer for Consuming Spirits by Chris Sullivan https://vimeo.com/ondemand/consumingspirits

The Shrine/An Argument animated by Sean Pecknold and Brittany Johnson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yAxIdkF2Qo&app=desktop

And finally, Mound by Allison Schulnik https://vimeo.com/31110838

"Muerte al Fin del Mundo (Death at the End of the World)"

The Apocalypse meets classic Golden Age Detectives in this fun-filled episode! Who is the killer? And can our suave Panamanian detective Hilario Sinclair uncover the culprit - all while surviving a nuclear holocaust! What a film!

(Also the title is Connor's rough translation - if anyone out there has a better translation, please feel free to let us know!)

"Wes Anderson's The Great St. Marie Bank Robbery"

Wes Anderson meets Bank Robbery in this hilarious misadventure of strange families, poor decisions and INTERPOL.

Joining the brigade to help tackle our longest episode yet, is the awesome Phil McCabe! Can we crack this Anderson nut? The answers are one click away!

"Guillermo Del Toro's The Beast's Ruin"

Dinosaur (What? That's not a genre?!?!) meets Guillermo Del Toro Fairy Tale!

I greatly apologize for the audio quality towards the end, where my neighbor decided to leave his car alarm going for 15 minutes. Jeez. (Just kidding, it's really not that noticeable, I only mention it in case my neighbor is reading this. Stop letting your car alarm run.)

"We Moose Go To Stalingrad!"

Slapstick Comedy meets WW2 War Film - with our special guest Phil Oxnard! This Eugene Levy helmed comedy masterpiece is a must see for all ages!

"We Moose Go To Stalingrad! will have you in stitches on the floor laughing! Best comedy I've ever seen!" - the Pope.
