"I'm a finance professional and Toastmasters President who helps women become more confident and credible through public speaking."A woman who overcame cultural barriers and self-doubt to find success in finance shares her story and tips for other women who want to enter the field. This is Urmi’s story…I'm a finance professional, and I've always been good with numbers and math. I never thought about working in finance, though, until I moved to Canada and started taking some classes. I realized that I loved finance and I was really good at it. I decided to make it my major and I haven't looked back since.I'm always looking for ways to grow and improve, so a few years ago I joined a Toastmasters club. Toastmasters has been a great way for me to overcome my fear of public speaking and become more confident. I'm now the President of my club and I'm working towards giving a Ted Talk.I believe that public speaking is important for all women, as it makes us more confident and credible. I want to be a role model for other young women, showing them that it is possible to pursue a nontraditional career path and be successful.Urmi is a Canadian finance professional who is passionate about self-growth and helping others. She volunteers with nonprofit organizations dedicated to women's empowerment and gender equality and is a member of Toastmasters International. Her mantra is - some women fear the fire; some become it   Resources:https://www.myways.ca/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZoiI0SGU0Xo9_lNjtLWtgghttps://www.linkedin.com/in/urmi-hossain/ Follow me on: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedougthompson/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Doug-Thompson-Podcast-110928150634768YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz2qwXN-yIHHUiX4Y-e5mwQTwitter: https://twitter.com/thedougthompsonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thedougthompson/Loved this episode? • Step 2 Starting Where Your Audience Lives
Step 2 is probably the most important step in telling a story your audience will love and allows you to make an instant connection with them. Yet I have found few people that actually talk about this. I call it part of my secret sauce but share it with you here.

  • Episode 59 - McKenna Sweazey
In this Episode I interview McKenna Sweazey who is on a mission to make remote work actually work. Pre-pandemic the physical workplace was challenging but at least you could see people and get a feel for their state of mind.

When COVID hit and everyone had to work remotely managers lost that ability to and as a result many employees struggled.

McKenna's mission is to teach organizations how to employ empathy to help reconnect remote employees with their team.

A very powerful interview for anyone that struggles with the hybrid and remote work environment.

McKenna Sweazey is a remote and hybrid management author and coach, having spent years working in global organizations, managing remote teams around the world. She's currently the VP of Marketing for Truthset, a data verification start-up. Previously, she managed B2B marketing for the Financial Times, leading teams in the US, Europe, and APAC from their London headquarters. She’s spent years refining her management skills to be as effective in person as from 6,000 miles away. Her passion is helping people harness empathy to better connect with their colleagues to drive success. She also holds an MBA from INSEAD and currently resides in Silicon Valley.

  • Brad Smith
What is the most limiting factor to a company's success? The CEO. Too many times they clone themselves through the company and end up at a plateau far short of the overall potential of the company.

In this episode I interview Brad Smith who helps CEO and Executive leadership create new chapters in the stories of their company.

He was raised to be a chemist and uses that curious and structured mindset to uncover the underlying meaning of life. He evaluates the effect and then uncovers the causes to derive new strategies that results in the desired outcome.

Brad Smith is the founder and CEO of Stellar Insight Inc. a business growth consulting and coaching company. Brad has been a chemist, production plant and equipment designer, a business manager, a business consultant, and an executive coach for CEOs and business owners among other things. He pursues insight and understanding into the convergence of business success, organizational excellence, and the practical actions it takes to consistently achieve significant business growth. In his words, “Everything is a theory until you experience it and can consciously repeat the experiment.” He has coached CEOs, business owners, and legislators for organizational growth and excellence for more than twenty-five years.
He has worked extensively with a variety of industries. Those companies who commit to the work find the specific results rewarding and significant.
His passion is working with ambitious, curious CEOs, business owners and their teams who are committed to their company’s excellence and growth.

  • Elaine Belson
In the final early release to Season 4 I talk with Elaine Belson. I released this early because she is running for congress in Maryland which led to some enlightening discussions especially since we come from different political parties, but we have much more in common than we do not. When we grew up it was common to have discussions with other that had an opposing POV and both walk away better informed and still friends. Using her training in Psychology and social work, Elaine outlines that many time the polarizing political climate today is more of a result of us having an argument with our internal feelings that aren't being acknowledged. The story here is that in order to complete the hero's journey we have to embrace those with differing points of view if only to learn something that makes us better in the process. Elaine Belson has 30 years combined clinical, military, political and teaching experience. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1987 from the University of Maryland at College Park and her master's degree in Social Work in 1993 from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Ms. Belson has worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, community agencies, and hospitals. She has also taught psychology at the college level and held several legislative positions. Ms. Belson served in the US Army as a Social Work Officer, including a deployment to Afghanistan, from 2008-2010. She was also the Executive Officer (XO) for the Medical Command in Afghanistan. Ms. Belson currently has her own private practice and serves on the School Safety Advisory Council for her county's Board of Education. https://anchor.fm/elaine-LCSWChttps://www.linkedin.com/in/elaine-belson-for-congress-232620226/https://twitter.com/ElaineBelson
