What does it mean to be an ally to strippers while doing pole fit? We discuss our experiences with whorephobia, unpack the nuances of allyship, and offer tips on how pole studios can ensure that whorephobia within the pole fit industry becomes a thing of the past. 

The term whorephobia refers to the negative stereotypes, stigma, and marginalization sex workers face, which stems from a pervasive fear and hatred of sex workers.

The pole fit community's perception of strippers has done a total 180. In 2015, they took to social media to distance themselves from strippers with the #NotaStripper movement, even using it as a marketing tactic. Fast forward to today and being "pro-stripper" is suddenly trendy. However, the damage caused by #NotaStripper still lingers, and many strippers remain wary of pole fit spaces. 

In this episode, we unpack the whorephobia that fueled the #NotaStripper movement, why we believe strippers shouldn’t have to be grateful to the pole fit community for their belated change of heart, as well as reacting to a cringe anti stripper video “Why I Pole Dance.”
