The age old question of nature vs nurture. Is our future determined by our God-given traits at birth? Many will argue strongly for this point and yes, there is much to say about this. However, we have come to realize that our environment, upbringing, parenting, experiences, education, and so on, have a great deal of influence. In fact, we now understand that just because someone was born with the ability to do certain things very well, if that trait is not practiced or nurtured, that trait will diminish with age.
Singing is an example. A natural gift for signing is full of potential, but that is just what it remains if the potential is not brought to use.
Athleticism is very much the same way. We see that if the gift of nature is not practiced and coached, it tends to top off and even decrease after the age of 20-30.
God gave us parents for a reason. The simple reason is that we need nurturing in order to reach and develop our fullest potential. We can not make a statement that someone will be successful based soley on genetics. In fact, we can make a stronger statement that someone will not be successful if they are born with genetic gifts but lack positive and healthy nurturing.
For this reason, as a Strong Dad, we should take our parenting responsibilities seriously. He have something that our kids need! We have the keys that help unlock the fullest potential of what God gave them to be successful. Use your keys wisely!
