  • Best of British

Matthew Layton and Sam Rickard present Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

    This week…

Matthew presents highlights of three of his favorite interviews from Studio 1 in 2021.

The BBC’s Peter White schools Matthew in making radio for people living with blindness or low vision.

He’s entitled to. He’s been doing it on BBC national radio since 1974.

The BBC’s Washington correspondent Gary O’Donoghue talks about Peter White - and gives us a summary of the various political, social and economic challenges facing the U.S. today

And Robin Millar - a man responsible for the production of over 600 gold and platinum records - gives us the safest advice we’ve ever heard about living with blindness.

  • Dr Hoby Wedler

Matthew Layton and Sam Rickard present Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

    This week…

Our guest on this week’s Studio 1, Dr Hoby Wedler is a sensory evangelist.

‘What on earth is a sensory evangelist?’ we hear you cry

Well, it’s Hoby’s belief that those of us who have sight are perhaps a little too reliant on that one sense.

He encourages us to try to use our other senses to get the most out of the world around us.

He’s also an entrepreneur by day, a computational chemist by training, and by nature an incredibly positive and collaborative individual

  • Gary O'Donoghue

Matthew Layton and Sam Rickard present Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

    This week…

Our guest is the man with one of the most coveted jobs in the world in the cut-throat profession of journalism,\Washington Correspondent for the BBC.

    His name is Gary O’Donoghue.

In this interview, Gary gives us an account of how daily life in Washington D.C. has been affected by COVID, tells us how the rhythm of his professional life has changed in the last ten months since the end of the Trump presidency (and what he refers to as the associated ‘hour-by-hour tweetfest’) and gives us pretty much the most concise and eloquent run-down you’re ever likely to hear of the major political, social, economic and cultural issues facing the United States today.

  • Lachi

Matthew Layton and Sam Rickard present Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

    This week…

We cross to New York, New York to speak to a young woman who maintains that white sticks are sexy!

    Her name is Lachi.

She’s a musician, producer and writer.

She also makes her voice heard on issues that are relevant to thoughts we have here on Studio 1; as co-chair of the Recording Academy’s advocacy chapter, as well as founding RAMPD - an organisation for recording artists with disabilities.

She’s also great fun - as you’re about to find out!

Matthew Layton and Sam Rickard present Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

    This week…

A question that people with a vision impairment get asked all the time - but for which they don’t necessarily have an instant and simple answer.

    “How much can you see?”

We ask the question of our Panel of Experts/Choir of Angels/Studio 1 Renegades.

Then we ask them how being asked that question makes them feel.
