[Civilian life in Chechnya was devastated by the Russian military's prejudice and carelessness toward Chechen civilians. Russian soldiers viewed every Chechen as an extremist, regardless of civilian status. This prejudice was engrained into Russian soldiers back in their homeland, which viewed the war against the little republic as a war against terrorism. Russia entered the war, unable to distinguish between the Chechen civilian and the Chechen extremist. This inability to distinguish created prejudice against the Chechens, as well as disregard for Chechen life. Russia employed tactics such as bombing, zachistka operations ("cleansing" operations), and abductions to explicitly target civilians in Chechnya.]

The War in the Pacific was one of the greatest conflicts in American History. The decade leading up to the attack at Pearl Harbor was one of intense diplomacy between the United States and Japan. The Japanese expanded into other parts of Asia and the Pacific which endangered American business and security interests. In response to this, the Untied States implemented strict sanctions on Japan in order to pressure their economy and ability to keep their military conquests viable. In order to keep their conquests alive, Japan had to expand even more in order to gain the necessary resources required to continue. The United States placed even stricter sanctions on the Japanese which backed the Japanese into a corner. They only had to had two options strike or retreat, and they chose to attack.

Despite warnings of a Japanese attack, somehow the United States was still caught off guard and unaware on December 7th, 1941. This podcast focuses on how the United states military, and the rest of the country, was so blind to a Japanese military attack. When the Japanese dropped the first bomb on Pearl Harbor the U.S. forces were severely understaffed, lacked vital resources, and proper defensive capabilities to protect itself because of the continued German threat in the Atlantic. At Pearl Harbor men were not trained properly, over worked, and did not have the necessary equipment to establish a proper defensive radius. But the most important factor to explain the surprise of Americans was an ego inflated by continued victory and disbelief that a country like Japan was capable and willing to invoke a war with the United States.

[In 1975, the South Vietnamese government fell to the Communists and thousands of Vietnamese fled to the United States. In my paper, I have outlined how these refugees were able to combat the struggles of relocating to a new country with a new culture through maintaining their communities. Their issues included learning a new language in a short period of time, assimilating into the American culture, and essentially starting their careers over. They were able to achieve some success because of their efforts to stay connected to each other which was aided by the local governments, the federal government, and voluntary resettlement agencies.]

The Constitutional Convention began in May and concluded in September 1787. During this time, the delegates debated over numerous issues. The most contentious issue debated at the Convention was the issue of congressional representation. James Madison's Virginia Plan called for a bicameral legislature in which both houses were apportioned according to a state's population. In response, the small states created the New Jersey Plan which called for a unicameral legislature where each state was equally represented. To end the gridlock, the Connecticut Compromise was created. This compromise saved the Convention from dissolving and helped create a new, stronger national government.

Nicholas Strasser examines how a pro-Nazi organization was able to gain support and publicity following the onset of the Great Depression and leading up to American involvement in World War II. He specifically analyzes the German American Bund and its activities including Hitler Youth style camps in New York and a rally which took place in Madison Square Garden, where roughly 20,000 supporters were in attendance. He also emphasizes its leader Fritz Kuhn, and the ties that the organization had with the government of Nazi Germany in aiding the foreign political organization within America.
