In this episode, we'll talk about running sales and discounts in your small business. This is a really important topic for any small business, whether you sell art online, products on etsy, or you sell in person in your city or town.
If you’ve listened to the Studio Sisters podcast for any amount of time, you’ve probably heard us say before that sales are not a great marketing technique for handmade businesses and artists.
They don’t bring you a huge number of new customers, and they can actually be really bad for your business because you’re going to make a lot less money on your products when you’re running a sale compared to selling your products at full price…but there are a few good reasons to run a sale, so in our episode today, we’re going to share 4 good times to run a sale in your business and talk about a couple of different types of sales you can run.

In this podcast episode, we're sharing some of the things we’re doing right now to sell more of our handmade products.
You might be thinking that we’re going to talk about running sales or lowering prices, but actually if you’ve been listening to us for awhile, you might know that we almost never talk about lowering your pricing in any way.
That’s not the way to sell more art or handmade items. It doesn’t help you convince customers to buy at your higher price point, and it doesn’t help you build a bigger audience. Running a sale or discounting your art is not the best strategy if you want to sell more art and make more money in your small business.
Instead, we are sharing 5 things we’re doing right now to sell more art. And, unlike running a sale, which costs you money, these 5 strategies lead to long term growth and none of them cost you a dime. They’re *completely free* with big results. So, let’s dive in!

This week on our podcast, we’re talking about product validation & how to know if the handmade item or art you have will sell on Etsy.
I’ve got 3 easy steps for validating a product to see how well it will sell on Etsy.
This topic is helpful for understanding your product and who the customers are who would want to buy it, understanding your competition, but also you don’t want to spend time making a product to sell if Etsy is not a good fit for it.
Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t make it if you love it...
And maybe it will be a good fit somewhere else, and you can also use these 3 steps to validate in other places like Instagram or Shopify.

This week on our podcast, we’re talking about probably our biggest passion that we share: traveling, and how we make money in our business while doing it.
So, we didn't travel much in 2020 (and not at all internationally), but we're super hopeful about 2021 and beyond, which is why we decided to record an episode on this topic.
Also, you can 100% use every one of these strategies without traveling to grow your brand at home.

This week on our podcast, Katie shares her story of how she got started as an artist and some of the interesting twists and turns she took along the way in her journey. Katie Smith is an emerging, award-winning, artist. Born & raised in Texas, Katie was homeschooled and spent most of her time sketching on anything she could get her hands on. Katie now lives in Washington State and is heavily inspired by nature and the pacific northwest. Katie is a self taught painter who enjoys experimenting with many mediums, including watercolors, mixed media, and oil paints. She learns as she paints and enjoys the process as much as the finished artwork.
She hopes to capture emotions and express the beautiful spirit of mother nature in her paintings. Katie’s paintings will transform you into another world through her personal style, vibrant colors, use of animal themes, and surreal, magical vibes.
Her artwork has been featured by locals shops, won multiple awards, showcased by galleries, and has been sold around the world.
