  • Prayer 2021 - April 8 - Praying in the Spirit pt 1
    Scripture For Today: Philippians 1:19
“..for I know that, through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.”
Praying in the Spirit pt 1
Spiritual things are very similar to natural things. Jesus took natural things and used them to explain spiritual things so we could more easily understand how the spirit world works.
Nobody is going to become an expert at some particular thing unless they work at it. And work hard. A professional golfer that is always competing for championships, did not work at 7-11 until the Open Tournament came to town and he decided he was going to skip work and take a shot at winning.
No. A serious competitor in golf has spent years practicing. Often alone with just him, a putter and a bucket of balls on the practice green. Once he has practiced enough in one spot, he moves to another on the green where there are other curves and nuances he has to identify. Practicing, at first, sinking close putts. One foot. Then, backing up. Until finally, he is 10 feet away and sinking putts. Then, he moves again and starts all over.
Next time, he may move to the sand bunker and do the same things. Hours. Hitting different shots from different angles and trying for different distances. Notice I have not even covered going to the driving range. That is where all of the amateurs hang out and practice. What these amateurs do not realize, but the pro’s do, is this. On an entire round of golf, you will only hit your driver, maybe 15 times. On the short par 3’s, you don’t hit a driver. So, if you are shooting “par” or the average score in a round of golf for that course, you may hit 15 out of 72 shots with your driver.
That means you are using other clubs 57 times. Your putter being used on probably 18 of them (at least).
“What does golf have to do with prayer, brother Bob?” I’m so glad you asked!
You have to be like the professional golfer who has spent, probably, thousands of hours hitting various shots in practice, (usually alone or maybe with one other person with him, a coach, parent, etc.). That golfer spent years practicing the same shots, over and over. The same putts, over and over and then, one day, miraculously makes a clutch shot to win a tournament and launch him or her into a successful golf career.
That golfer did not just “get lucky.” That golfer had been practicing that shot for years and probably thousands of times. He or she had that “feel” for how hard to hit the ball. They had numerous hours of practice in reading the green to see how the ball would turn. That did not happen by accident. But when the situation arrived for which they had been preparing, it was a lot easier for them to make that shot because they knew they had made it hundreds of times before.
You need to be the same way in your prayer life. Yes, it gets monotonous spending time in prayer (well, sometimes anyway). You wonder if that time could not be put to better use. But you NEED to spend those hours, hundreds of hours, every single year, in prayer. You need to give yourself that Spiritual booster shot to make it through the day. You need to become familiar with hearing from the Holy Spirit as He may just “show up” sometimes in your prayer life.
    Why?
Because on those needful occasions, whenever that may be, you need to be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. He may lead you in a way to avoid some catastrophe or harm. He may lead you to pray in intercession for someone, saving them from some catastrophe or harm. He may lead you into making an investment or business decision that launches you into a new career and you, your family and others are extremely blessed because of ONE financial decision.
But if you are not Spiritually sensitive enough to listen, it will never work out. And that only happens when you give yourself to prayer every single day. Maybe even more than one time per day. Whenever and how often is between you...

  • Prayer 2021 - April 7 - Edify Yourself
    Scripture For Today:

    Colossians 4:2

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

    Edify Yourself

We have been talking about praying in tongues and being led in our prayer life by the Holy Spirit. We also need to take the time to build ourselves up by praying in the Holy Spirit for ourselves. This is usually accomplished through praying in tongues for our own life. Amen!

In Jude, verse 20, we read “But ye, beloved, BUILDING YOURSELVES UP on your most Holy Faith, PRAYING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT.”

Praying in the Holy Spirit is praying in tongues. Paul made a statement similar to Jude in First Corinthians 14:4 where he said, “He that speaks in an unknown tongue EDIFIES HIMSELF. But he that prophesies edifies the church.”  That word, “edify” means the same exact thing that “building yourself up” does in Jude 20. Amen! How many of you just received a revelation in that? Praise God!

One element of speaking in tongues in our prayer life does NOT involve praying for other people – it is purely a means of personal and spiritual edification in our own life. We need that kind of praying. We are not going to be able to pray effectively for others without being edified in our own life and spirit. Amen!

The more we pray in other tongues and build up our own spirit man, the more keenly aware we will be in the Holy Spirit and things of the Spirit when we pray for other people. Praying in tongues helps make us sensitive to the Holy Spirit when He desires to manifest spiritual gifts through us.

We must stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit so He can manifest the Gifts of the Spirit through us as He desires. This is especially true if we are to be used in the operation of the vocal Gifts of the Spirit, prophecy, tongues and the interpretation of tongues. We need to be Spiritually sensitive to know and understand what the Holy Spirit is sharing if we are called into a ministry of vocally sharing these things with others. Amen!

In other words, we have something to do to cooperate with the movement of the Holy Spirit in the manifestation of the vocal gifts because we are the ones doing the talking. We cannot operate in those gifts anytime we want. We cannot operate in this type of gift if we are not led by the Spirit to do so. Which means WE must be 100% Spiritually sensitive to the things of the Spirit in order to do this. Amen! And that type of sensitivity ONLY comes through your own private prayer time of praying in tongues. Amen!

  • Prayer 2021 - April 6 - Give Yourself to Prayer
    Scripture For Today: James 5:17

“Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.”

    Give Yourself to Prayer

You do realize that there are those who don’t have or do not believe in the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, right? Either way, they are missing out. They don’t have access to the same Power of God working in their lives, especially, their prayer life.

When we don’t give ourselves to prayer the way the Bible says we should be doing it, WE miss out on many of the blessings God says is rightfully ours.

I know many people rarely pray until something tragic happens that REQUIRES them to pray. Then, in some situations, it is actually too late to pray. That’s sad, but true.

I believe if we would just be more sensitive the leadership of the Holy Spirit, we could know ahead of time of the things coming that we should be praying about. I believe the Holy Spirit is searching for those who will give themselves to this kind of praying.

When we get up to Heaven and rewards are being passed out, there will be many disappointed people waiting for their names to be called but they never are called. I’m not saying they are not saved. I’m saying they should have been giving themselves to pray but didn’t – so they will not receive a reward like those who DO give themselves to pray.

There will be many big name Christians in that crowd, waiting and expecting their name to be called but never hear it. There will be many, many, MANY names called that are not known to the world but had given themselves to prayer and fasting on a frequent basis. They will be openly rewarded for their obedience to God. Amen!

I’m not saying we should be praying so we can get rewards in Heaven. No – that is NOT a reason to give yourself to prayer. You need to give yourself to prayer because this world NEEDS prayer. Your family, your friends, your co-workers need prayer.

These people don’t know they need prayer or are not proficient in prayer. They may need prayer because of something that has not happened yet, but the Holy Spirit sees it coming and is having you to pray so it does not happen.  Or they sense the presence of God as whatever it is does happen – and they are delivered from the trouble.

These are all things that you can be directly involved with, even though the person may never know what you prayed about. Whether you directly know the impact your prayers made or not really does not matter, either. So don’t go asking them or saying anything about what the Holy Spirit showed you. It was shown you so you could pray. Not so you could brag. Amen!

  • Prayer 2021 - April 5 - Pray for the Sick with Boldness
    Scripture For Today: James 5:14

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the Name of the Lord.”

Pray for the Sick with Boldness

One thing I learned a long time ago is that we, as believers, have authority to pray for, make intercession for and make supplications for those that are sick. Many times, we fall into the mistake of using our natural senses to pray rather than allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us in our prayers.

When someone comes to you, contacts you or otherwise sends a message for you to pray, how many times have you said, “I’ll pray for you” – but never did? Don’t shout me down when I’m preaching good…you know exactly what I’m saying…

There have been times when I did the same thing.  Someone told me of some condition, it may not even be a sickness – it could be they are applying for a job or anything…and they say something like, “Pray for me that I get this job” or “Pray that the doctor’s test comes back negative” or anything like that.

And we automatically respond with something, “Ok. I’ll pray be praying for you…”

    And then we never do.

Don’t lie. I know that you know you’ve done this, too. I admit, that I’ve done it as well.

Well, folks, let’s just say that’s “not very Christian like.” Am I right?

What I’ve found that works for me, is to pray for them!

“Well, brother Bob, that’s nice. So what?”

No, you don’t understand what I’m saying. I mean “I pray for them – right then!”

I don’t care if it is in the middle of the grocery store or at WalMart. We see each other and exchange pleasantries, etc. Then, they tell me whatever it is they have going on and say, “So just pray for me…”

I say, “OK. Let’s pray!” I grab their hand or I put my arm on their shoulder and start to pray. Right there! Out loud! And I pray “In the Name of Jesus” and pray as if we were alone somewhere. I’m not shy about it anymore.

The person will usually respond, at first, with, “Here?”  I respond with, “YUP!” And we pray!

Now, I will not pray out loud about personal matters that nobody else should know about. But I will pray, “Lord, you know what Sister so and so is going through right now. We come together in agreement according to your Word and release our Faith in agreement together and take authority of this situation and we command, In the Name of Jesus, this demonic attack to stop, etc. etc.”

I usually only will pray publicly like this, with Sister so and so, for maybe 45 to 60 seconds or so.

    What does this do?

Well, first of all, they know I prayed, right?

Next, we prayed together, that’s the power of agreement.

Then, we provided a public testimony that we believe in what we say we do. That is a testimony the Lord can possibly use to reach someone else with the Gospel. Amen!

The devil isn’t secret about his plan to destroy lives through sickness or whatever. Why should we be shy about his defeat that has already been achieved? And the power and authority that we have been given to make sure he stays defeated?  Don’t be shy! Be BOLD! Amen!

I want to pray for you right now to have that kind of boldness when someone asks you to pray for them. Amen!

  • Prayer 2021 - RESURRECTION MORNING!
    Scripture For Today:
    MATTHEW 28:1-8 RESURRECTION SUNDAY!

    Matthew 28:1-8

“After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his robe was as white as snow.4 The guards were so shaken from fear of him that they became like dead men.

5 But the angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here! For He has been resurrected, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead. In fact, He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see Him there.’ Listen, I have told you.”

8 So, departing quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to tell His disciples the news.”

Today, we celebrate Jesus’ victory over death,  hell, sin, the grave and over Satan and every demonic force in existence.

Today, we celebrate the culmination of our Heavenly Father’s plan that He put into action in the Garden of Eden.

Today, we celebrate Jesus taking our sin and removing it forever!

If you have never accepted Jesus as you Savior, receiving the gift of Eternal Life and a new Spirit  man to replace that old sinful one, imagine having today as YOUR SPIRITUAL BIRTHDAY!

I want to pray for you to do just that!

  • Prayer 2021 - April 3 - Intercession and Supplication pt 2

    Scripture For Today:

    1 Kings 8:33

“When your people Israel have been defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against you, and when they turn back to you and give praise to your name, praying and making supplication to you in this temple,”

    Intercession and Supplication part two

We have been talking about prayers of intercession and supplication for others. We’ve been talking about praying in other tongues as led by the Holy Spirit. We’ve been talking about groanings and utterances by the Holy Spirit.

I want to share a very important aspect of this, especially when it comes to the prayer of intercession. When we pray for the lost, many times YOU will have a burden of guilt and of sin – that “lost feeling” over take you!  You, in your own spirit, will sense that feeling of being lost and destined to hell. You sense it in your own spirit and in your consciousness. That is because you are taking this person place in prayer. You are interceding for them in prayer. Amen.

This does not happen all of the time. But I have sensed it enough to recognize it when it does happen. I remember the first time, I thought something was wrong with “my spirit.” That perhaps I was actually the one who was lost and God was trying to make me aware of it.

It was not until a little bit later when the Holy Spirit showed me a vision of the person I was praying for. I do not know where this person was or who they were. I’ve never met them. But I know the Holy Spirit showed me this person so I would not feel condemnation on my own soul and believe the lie the devil was trying to tell me.

I had interceded in the spirit for another lost person – which is totally scriptural. The devil was trying to make me believe “I was the lost person” and that I had never been forgiven, born again, called by God, etc. Because this was a new spiritual walk for me, the Holy Spirit allowed me to visually “see” what had happened.

There have only been a few more times over the last 25 years or so where I had a vision of the person I was interceding for. Why? I don’t know. I don’t ask. I don’t ask because it really does not matter.

“Why would you say it doesn’t matter, brother Bob? Wouldn’t it be a lot more effective to see the person you were praying for?”

Short answer… NO!  Because then you start to look for those visions. And remember, the devil will be more than happy to accommodate you in moving into the physical senses, especially when it comes to praying is concerned.

Do not go into the prayer of intercession desiring, seeking or asking for a vision or anything else. What you are doing in Spiritual Warfare. Amen! Not physical. SPIRITUAL.

Just trust the Power of the Holy Spirit to take care of whoever you are praying for. Pray and continue to pray in the Spirit until you sense of release to stop. Whether you never find out who or what you were praying about does not matter. Just thank God for the opportunity and believe God for the answer.
