What are the ingredients to make a really fantastic injector? This week Dr Tim reveals how he's often asked for his top tips that help set him and other top injectors like him apart from the crowd.
Watch and listen to Tim set out the battles that need to be won on your journey to mastery!
Tim covers:
(1) The identity crisis - when starting out in medical aesthetics, we have to work out 'Who or what am I now?' - you're used to being a hardcore medical nurse or doctor but how does working in aesthetics affect how you feel, how to interact, what you stand for...even how you dress
(2) Competence - often injectors will focus on the technical skills (the injections) but the truth is that this is only built on many other layers of knowledge which underpin these skills and help you adapt
(3) Treatment design - think of the architect here whereas the technique is like the bricklayer. You need both to become the best injector you can be. Treatment design is where you assemble all those techniques in perfect execution.
(4) The aesthetic - learn the nuanced skill of understanding the aesthetic - the ability to understand what it is that makes someone look sad, angry, or beautiful. What's the aesthetic goal? Technical good injections don't guarantee aesthetically beautiful results.
(5) Anatomy & physiology - knowing all the layers and structures and how they all work together are KEY to developing outstanding treatment designs and understanding how the products you're using will behave over time. The face is always moving so we have to learn to think in terms of 'dynamic beauty'
(6) Complications - how to avoid complications is the best lesson but when things do go wrong to understand how to identify and then manage the consequences safely and quickly
(7) Patient psychology - the consultation! How we can develop skills over time to REALLY understand what our patients are thinking and feeling and then...how to build these factors into your treatment plan
