The years continue to go by yet Abram doesn’t have an heir according to the promise and doubt begins to set in. The Lord meets Abram in a vision to reaffirm his promise, and then presents him with a covenant. However, when the time comes to make the covenant, only one party walks the aisle. On that day the Lord made a covenant to Abram and secured it himself, a covenant that would not be fully realized until Jesus uttered the final words, “It is finished!"

Shortly after God’s promise to bless Abram, he now finds himself in the position of rescuing his nephew Lot from destruction. Abram emerges from the battle victorious and now faces one of his greatest tests. Will he seize power for himself or will he trust in the promise of God to make him into a great nation?

In Genesis 12:1-3, we begin to see the plan of God further take shape as God chooses a people through whom He would bless the entire world. As the church, we are also called to be a chosen people who proclaim the excellencies of our Lord to all nations.

Now we turn our attention to the practical reality of living under the good rule and reign of Christ Jesus here and now. If we are Kingdom Citizens, then the gospel will shape every aspect of our lives. From our private devotion to our public declaration, our whole being is shaped by the transforming work of Christ.

In this third and final message of the series, we will fast forward to Matthew 1:18-25 and examine two more names prophetically given for this long-awaited King. An angel of the Lord appears to Mary’s husband, Joseph, in a dream and tells him the true identity of the baby in Mary’s womb. He then gives Joseph two more names: Jesus and Immanuel. As Christmas approaches, we spend this last week celebrating the good news of a God who is with his people and saves them from their sin.

Continuing our journey in Isaiah 9:1-7, we dig even deeper into the promise of joy described as a great light to those walking in darkness. Building upon the foundation of the first message, we will explore the next two names of this promised child: Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.

Isaiah goes on to describe the joy of the nations, pointing to the coming Messiah and King. This long-awaited child is then given many names describing his character and purpose. In this first message we will examine the first two names: Wonderful Counselor and Mighty God.
