The Summit Healthcare Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center received the Center of Distinction Award!

Summit Healthcare is home to a specialized Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center. The advanced medical center houses two hyperbaric chambers and is the only rural hospital in northeastern Arizona to offer this service. This addition is part of our goal to provide a complete system of medical and professional care to our patients.

Summit Healthcare's Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center is an outpatient, hospital-based program. The medical center is designed to complement the services offered by patients' primary care physicians–in fact; we should think of it an extension of a physician's practice. Patients receive outstanding, professional, and courteous attention in a timely fashion, and are returned to the referring physician once the healing is satisfactory. The program operates by appointment and requires a referral from the primary care physician.

Weight Management Program for Summit at the Show Low Walk-In Clinic.

There are four parts to the program:

• Diet - 80% of weightloss is related to nutrition/diet
• Medications - talk about what medications you are taking that may be causing weight gain or what medications may help you lose.
• Exercise - physical activity
• Behavior - behavior/ mental health has a big impact on weight. Food choices can cause anxiety.

The initial appointment takes about an hour. A unique program will be created for each individual.

Tips!

• Drink water, water, water.
• Sugar is more addictive than cocaine.
• Artificial Sweeteners trigger your sweet tooth.
• Zero calorie or low calorie foods are not always the healthiest option.
• Vegetables are a MUST! This food group is non-negotiable.

Summit Healthcare (SH) and Open Spaces Yoga Center (OSYC) are co-sponsoring a three-month long program helping participants create optimum self-care and lifestyle habits. From Feb. 15 through April 15, residents and visitors alike can participate in over 15 free health-oriented classes that encourage use of beneficial physical and mental health choices. The following classes are scheduled:

Sleep Well: The Gentle Art of Gaining Rest with Ivy Loney

Tuesday, March 19, from 12:15-12:45 p.m. at SH conference room 4

Tuesday, March 12, and Tuesday, April 2, from 12:15-12:45 p.m. at OSYC.

Being Mindful: Finding Peace in Times of Stress with Ken Hosie

Wednesday, March 20 from 12-1 p.m.; Monday, March 4, and Tuesday, April 2, from 5-6 p.m.; at SH conference room 2.

Food is Your Friend Info Talks with Becky Moffatt

Your Path to Self-Care Support Group with Ann Unrast

Feb. 20-April 17, every Wednesday from 4-5 p.m. at OSYC.

FAST is an acronym used as a mnemonic to help detect and enhance responsiveness to the needs of a person having a stroke. The acronym stands for Facial drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties and Time to call emergency services. Call 911 with these signs and get checked. Strokes are time sensitive.
