Chris Orr studied art and design at Prahran Institute and graphic design at Swinburne University in the 1980s. In the 1990s, after rocking around in nightclubs, he started a graphic design practice, Beige, strongly anchored in street art.

Shane Jenek, better known under the stage name Courtney Act, is an Australian drag queen, pop singer, entertainer and reality television personality. Act first came to prominence competing on the first season of Australian Idol in 2003.

Eden and Josh Carell are the siblings behind Littlefoot and Company which started out in their Berwick loungeroom in 2016, where they held intimate spoken word nights from their home in a bid to promote artistic expression within the community they were born and raised. 

Eventually these nights grew and they held the events at a local pub where they were scouted by an arts programmer at Bunjil Place, Narre Warren. Their residency at Bunjil Place normally attracts over 70 people showcasing diverse art forms such as poetry, music, comedy and short stories.

If you want new plays and new stories to flourish then we need to let producers learn the craft of making money, of show business. But instead of hoping that we and what we are proving can work goes away, the industry would do better to embrace it, for in the long run it is the entire industry who could benefit as instead of trolling through loads of scripts looking for one that they hope will work they can send out scouts to these travelling suburban plays to pick up whatever is working.

NGV’s Senior Curator of Indigenous Art, Judith Ryan AM chats about the video series and Marking Time: Indigenous Art from the NGV.

 

Marking Time is an NGV Collection exhibition about the expansion of Indigenous signs and symbols from rock faces to acrylic paint on board and contemporary interpretations including neon signs and video works.

 

The tour features work by Footscray artist Reko Rennie, Paddy Compass Namadbara and senior Warlpiri women of Lajamanu in the Northern Territory.
