This Sunday we come to the halfway point of the Gospel of Mark. We have seen a boat miracle (stilling of the storm), a bread miracle (feeding of the 5000), a boat miracle (walking on the water), and a bread miracle (the feeding of the 4000). Now we have bread in the boat. Here Jesus confronts the disciples with the question of whether or not they really understand who he is. Although we are tempted to be frustrated with the disciples' lack of understanding, we cannot be smug because Jesus confronts us with this very same question. How will we answer?

Join us as we ponder the question "But who do YOU say that I AM?"

This week we unpack the familiar story of Jesus walking on the water. We will discover there is much more than meets the eye happening here. In fact, this story is a stirring reminder of how to read the Bible. Bible reading is not just a cerebral exercise in which we recover “the author’s original intent.” God is the divine author, and he intends to reveal himself. Let's prepare our hearts this week to see the glory of Christ together.

This week's passage highlights the amazing difference Jesus makes. We find that testimonies of what Jesus has done spread far and wide and inspire others to come to Jesus. We will also see a stark contrast when others do not embrace Jesus and only pretend to be close to God. This text is surprisingly relevant for us today. Come join us as we hear what Jesus has to say to his church.

In Mark 7:14-23, the passage starts with Jesus calling the multitude to Himself and saying, "Hear me, everyone, and understand." Join us this Sunday and see how Jesus's words point us to not just the depth of this phrase, but also what tends to limit, or influence, our ability to "understand".

The text opens with Jesus and the unbelief of his hometown (6:1-6). Then we see another one of Mark's sandwiches. We start with the sending of the disciples (6:7-13), and we end with the return of the disciples (6:30). The meat in the middle is the story of how John the Baptist was beheaded. Someone may wonder why we would pick a passage about the beheading of someone else. What kind of weird church is this? I think we will all be surprised to see how much this passage has to teach us about our discipleship in this crazy world in which we live.

Whether it's because of school, work, or life in general; we have all felt the weight of "being busy". But how do you tend to respond when life gets busy? Join us this Sunday, as we look at the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 (Mark 6:30-44) and gain a deeper understanding what it means to "Follow Him," in even the busiest moments of our lives.

I desire to see Urban grow in the areas of worship and outreach! During my two years as "worship director" it's quite evident Urban desires this as well, which for me is very encouraging and exciting! Through the message I hope to address questions on how this endeavor will be achieved.
