January 11, 2023 Grainsplaining #6 Alex, NAS and The School of YouTube
Happy New Year! We are back with a brand new (but old) episode, recorded at the end of last year and we cover A LOT, so buckle in!

Recorded ahead of the launch of Alex’s fantastic campaign with NAS- the National Autistic Society, in this episode we chat about Alex’s latest photography project, “Now I Know”, where Alex photographed six incredible Autistic women and non-binary people, documenting their stories, in their words.

It is a beautiful, moving campaign, and we can’t wait for you to learn all about it. In this episode Alex also tells us more about her story with autism, and how it has led her to where she is today.

Of course it wouldn’t be Grainsplaining with some extra feminism chat, so we also cover smashing the patriarchy and similar issues. Alex has some top notch advice for those who want to break into the photography industry, so we hope this can be some fantastic motivation to kick off 2023 with!

Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and now Twitter @grainsplaining @alexandra_heron @emmajlloyd_ and if you would like to get in touch email us at [email protected]

January 09, 2023Digital Film Photography #5 What have we learned?
As our little mini-series comes to an end, what have we learned along the way?
We have some great feedback from our community, especially on the Sunny 16 Discord
Fuji cameras can shoot IR natively with just a 720nm filter and so do some other brands as well
Kolari Lens Hotspot Database
Dave Powell: 5 Largely Unknown Digital-Infrared Gems (35mmc)
Emulating film is not just about the grain and the colours - actually shooting parameters matter too!
In this context: Video by Media Division about ultra-fast lenses (f0.7)
Realism in photography is sometimes a problem and detracts from the image - especially when you get to the uncanny valley
Smart TVs aren’t
60fps is actually dangerous (not really, just to Ade’s mental health)
And much, much more!
Including that there is room for everyone and every approach in this big wide world of photography 😀

Christian and Ade are on a journey to explore the spectrum of digital and film photography. It’s inclusive, light-hearted and hopefully fact-based 😀. Please join us!
