The Hawthorn racism saga is set to head to court after mediation in the Human Rights Commission broke down. The club and former First Nations players and their partners failed to reach a deal with the commission's view the parties were too far apart. Cyril Rioli and other ex-players now have 60 days to file and take the matter to the Federal Court with sources saying they intend to initiate those proceedings.

The fallout continues to widen in the wake of Bruce Lehrmann's defamation trial with Lisa Wilkinson and Channel 10 ordered to work towards an agreement over the TV star's legal costs. Ms Wilkinson is seeking a whopping $1.8 million from her employer with her lawyer arguing the network has a "reluctance to pay" anything in regards to the matter. But with Mr Lehrmann seeking advice about a possible appeal against the verdict there could be even more legal costs to come.

The Immigration Minister is under fire after it was revealed that nearly a 5th of the 153 former immigration detainees who were freed after a landmark High Court ruling last year have since been charged with new offences post-release. It comes amid news that at least 3 foreign child abusers were allowed to stay in the country because of a direction Andrew Giles gave to take a foreign offender's "ties to Australia" as the main factor when considering visa cancellation appeals.
