One of Victoria's worst paedophiles has been released into the community unsupervised staying in a house less than a hundred metres from a childcare centre. 7NEWS cannot reveal his identity nor the location he is staying after lawyers successfully argued against it. It's understood the man had stayed at the home previously and was due to stay there again. He was convicted of multiple rapes and child abductions.

There's a major investigation underway in Sydney's eastern suburbs after a 19-year-old woman was found dead inside her home. Paramedics made the grisly discovery at a North Bondi unit yesterday. A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene on outstanding drug offences and is being questioned by detectives. The cause of her death is still not known.

Melbourne police are investigating a fire at a fast food outlet in Taylors Lakes. The building on Melton Highway was badly damaged in the blaze, which broke out shortly before three o'clock. Detectives are on the scene and they're calling for a dashcam as they try to work out what caused the fire.

The Government is under mounting pressure to explain how a former immigration detainee accused of a brutal home invasion was out in the community in the first place. 73-year-old Perth grandmother Ninette Simons and her husband Philip were at home earlier this month when a trio allegedly posing as police officers entered their house and are accused of assaulting her.
