SuperCoach Champions

Happy New Year and here's hoping that 2022 will be kinder to all of us!

Joe Fitz is back and joins Catfish to go through the hooker, front row forward and second row forward positions and look through which players jump out as either overpriced, or more importantly, underpriced, coming into the 2022 season. This might be due to discounts applied due to the number of games played, or a significant change in role, bench or injury-affected games, or perhaps it's due to potentially unsustainable levels of output and regression to the mean is inevitable.

Part 2 will follow soon and the remaining positions will be broken down in a similar manner.

This week we hear from reigning 2021 Champion Tim Moodie (@TheSCLurker), immediate past 2020 Champion Joe Naddaf (@joenaddafA1)), and ancient history past 2016 Champion Catfish (@CatfishSC) - this trio of Champions got together just before the Team Picker was released and recorded an episode about some of the key winners and losers from the dual position changes for various players, as well as a far-too-early discussion about whether it's time to break the bank and it's Turbo time from Round 1, or whether the Teddy/Papenhuyzen combo is just too juicy to ignore price-wise.

Catfish tackles a bit of a different season review, where we speak to Rob, the coach of 'Centurions' who was repeatedly mentioned on the Champions podcast throughout the year as the leader of our group competition, but unfortunately fell away right at the death. A very successful season in most SuperCoaches' eyes (finished 39th overall) but arguably still a disappointment given Rob was leading at one point and in the top 4 for the majority of the season.

It's a different type of insight and a fascinating look into how things can so easily go wrong, even when you get almost everything right! Some slight audio issues but hopefully still can be easily listened to - Rob has a lot of interesting thoughts and insights to share!

We also provide a short update on the Topsport NFL Charity League battle - really down to the business end now!

In the next of our offseason chats, 2021 champion Tim Moodie a.k.a. the Shady SC Lurker, Catfish and Joe Fitz share their initial thoughts about the 2022 draw release including possibly the team with the best opening draw, look into some stats to prove why you should avoid Rabbitohs for Round 1 teams and for some reason, spend far too long discussing the Bulldogs.

In this episode, Catfish and Joe Fitz look at the players who 'popped' in 2021 but only had a brief flash of interest or relevance this season (five games or less), and throw out some names to keep tabs on over the offseason in case they continue trending in the right direction for 2022. From names like Ieremia Nanai to Luke Keary, there are certainly a variety of names to chuck on the watchlist!

[Again there was a two week delay on recording to publishing of this episode!]

They just wanted it more! The NRL is expanding, the Dolphins are coming and Catfish and Joe Fitz have a bit of fun with a NRL Team Mascot draft. We also chat about very preliminary thoughts on what the expansion means for 2023 NRL SuperCoach, plus talk potential team targets for the inaugural Dolphins team based on off-contract players for 2022/2023.

[Recorded the week after the Grand Final - apologies for the delay in editing/uploading, things have been hectic!]

Catfish is joined by newly-crowned 2021 NRL SuperCoach Champion, Tim Moodie, for a laidback, more relaxed chat where we celebrate his victory, the Panthers epic Grand Final win, and do a look back over his successful season.

Tim is refreshingly and brutally honest about his approach to SuperCoach, we get to see how Tim's brain works and our chat goes off on tangents and directions never thought possible - and things get really 'real' at the end too for a while. All part of the Tim Moodie experience, it seems!

Please also consider donating to the MyCause page for Jaimee (Tim's sister) - https://www.mycause.com.au/p/262877/help-jaimee-battle-breast-cancer

A massive thank you on behalf of Tim and his sister Jaimee for those who have already been incredibly generous so far.

[This was recorded last Thursday so note that the Dally Ms hadn't had its 'second night' yet!]

Maybe it's the first one of many but who knows - in any case, Catfish and Joe Fitz present the Champions' take on the Dally Ms - the Champy Ms (yes bad pun definitely intended). We use a proper voting system inspired by the Dally Ms and apply it via NRL SuperCoach points. Which players receive this prestigious award in 2021?! You'll have to listen to find out (no prizes for guessing the winners unfortunately haha).

NRL finals are ongoing but it's the NRL SuperCoach offseason. That means we're debriefing and preparing for 2022 - we start off by looking at the key lessons that we've learned from 2021 and what key takeaways will we be applying to 2022 onwards. Plus there's a bit of chat about the Topsport NFL Fantasy Charity League too!

The 2021 season is over, and of course a massive congrats to Tim Moodie, coach of 'The Villi Army', for being the latest SuperCoach Champion! As mentioned, we're still here and we do a bit of 'tidying up' for the season, including announcing our group competition winner Brad, coach of 'Hoppa's finger' and also announcing our last Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round winner for 2021.

Catfish and Joe Fitz then look back at 2021, and discuss some of their biggest hits and misses this year, and some preliminary thoughts to take forward to 2022. There's a bit of chat about the Topsport NFL Fantasy Charity League at the end too!
