SuperCoach Champions

The Champions are back for the first time in 2020 and the first thing we're doing is looking back at 2019! We take a bit of a look back at how 2019 finished up and also how the Champs did in their first season working with Bear and Catfish too. Then, the main event! We're here to hand out the most prestigious*** of NRL SuperCoach awards, the Champies!

*** may not actually be all that prestigious, if at all

Find out who Catfish and Bear have crowned the Rookie, Surprise Packet, Disappointment, Cheapie and POD of the Year, as well as capping off with the coveted Forward of the Year and Back of the Year awards, before the 2019 MVP is unveiled. Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter!

Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really do appreciate them all! And we did mention our Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/NRLSC_Champions - please have a browse and see if you want to get involved!

Follow us on Twitter (@NRLSC_Champions), or individually (@CatfishSC and @GFeeney10) to stay up to date on all things NRL SuperCoach, and to be notified about when the next podcast is out! Hope you enjoyed our look back at the 2019 season and get ready for more exciting things to come!

This is it! We're finally here, the last round and we're eight games from crowning a new overall champion and Bear will become "somebody that we used to know" as well. Unfortunately no Bear again this week as he is effectively on standby for the coming of his new bub, so Catfish goes solo for a while to talk about how to best prepare for Round 25 and dealing with the teamlist dramas, and he answers your Twitter questions.

He is then joined by the current #1 and #2 ranked SuperCoaches, Dez (coach of 'Turbo Irvo') and Walson (coach of 'RTS Pongas') who are vying to become the 2019 NRL SuperCoach Champion! We get to know them a bit more and we chat about their season, including their interesting dynamic as competitors but also supporters of each other too. Both are really great guys so get around them as they try finish the season as strongly as they can!

It's serious business for NRL SuperCoach, with preliminary finals for head-to-head players and of course, the overall race is looking like another close finish just like last year with a new overall leader. No Bear this week but Catfish is joined by Sam "BanyoBoy" Rohlf (@BanyoBoy), the 2017 overall champion, who shares his experience in the last two rounds and offers some wise words of wisdom to those at the pointy end.

As hinted previously, Catfish is also joined by another special guest, a very familiar name and voice in Tom Sangster (!) who clears up once and for all the truth behind whether his captain gets unicorn point updates (spoiler alert: he doesn't), why he lies to us about his trade, captain and reserve options (spoiler alert again: he doesn't), and he also provides us with a look into "the other side" when they prepare to crown the new overall champion (Note: audio wasn't ideal for this section so you may need to turn up the volume from around the 7 minute mark to the 25 minute mark).

Catfish and BanyoBoy then discuss a few players of interest in each of the eight games this week, including the likes of Will Hopoate, Ken Maumalo, Blake Ferguson, Connor Watson, Ryan Papenhuyzen, Daniel Tupou, Bronson Xerri, Luciano Leilua and Jackson Ford - players who might be PODs to target or potential start/sit decisions for common players in most of our teams.

There are three weeks left in the overall race, while head-to-head games hit sudden death mode! It's truly business time right now.

This week's episode features a chat between Catfish and David "VK" Von Kotze, the 2014 overall champion and we get to hear from his experiences in the last three rounds of his year, plus he offers some valuable advice to those teams at the pointy end.

Bear and Catfish then discuss a few key players like Jason Taumalolo and Jake Trbojevic, plus as always we finish up by answering your questions off Twitter.

Just four rounds until the season is over, and head-to-head finals are kicking off this week too. It's all happening and even though plenty of us are low/out of trades, well, it's even more important how we finish using them isn't it!

It's an extra long episode this week as we preview all eight games and look in depth at each time, considering which teams are "done" for the season and could offer easy SuperCoach pickings, and which teams are still having a dig despite their standings on the ladder. We discuss start/sit options from every team and as always, we answer as many of your questions as we can.

Another week down and just five more rounds before we crown a brand new overall champion, and Bear becomes somebody that we used to know, a has-been, just like Catfish. Still plenty of footy, and NRL SuperCoach to get through before then though! This week we both share our experiences in navigating the final weeks of the competition, both as a long-time leader who was almost run down, and as a chaser who was around that #2 and #3 mark leading up to the final round.

We also talk through a number of players like Andrew Fifita, Ryan Matterson, Clint Gutherson, Kotoni Staggs and others, and consider whether they are a 'sell' or not, and finish up by going through your Twitter questions as usual.
