  • S01E10: The One Where John Winchester Learns To Use the Phone
KJ and Meredith are going it alone this week as Sam and Dean brave a haunted asylum. They petition for Katherine to dump her boyfriend Gavin for bringing her on a date to an abandoned building, try to see the Winchester brothers through their numerous fights this episode, and Meredith reenacts a scene KJ felt was missing where John Winchester is unable to operate a toaster.
CW Episode description: Sam and Dean investigate an abandoned sanitarium and discover that when the hospital was open, the patients held a revolt against the cruel and unusual punishments inflicted by the head doctor. While the brothers search the premises for four lost college students, the tortured spirits cause them to go insane, turning Dean against Sam.

  • S01E09: The One Where The Winchesters Go Home
KJ is joined by a bunch of fun guests this week, prepared to hunt down John Winchester and keep him from further damaging his sons. Sam and Dean are headed back to their hometown and face a monster living in their old house-and reconcile the life trajectory Mary’s death sent them down. The episode is filled with reactions to the Winchesters’ origin story and analysis of their family dynamics. Everyone’s in love with psychic Missouri Mosley, with her quick tongue and delightful voice. Meredith also brings extra poltergeist stories.
CW Episode description: Sam is haunted by a vision of a woman trapped in his childhood house and convinces a reluctant Dean that they need to go home. Upon arrival, they meet the woman in Sam's premonition and she reveals that the house is haunted. Looking into their personal history, the brothers discover their father had visited a psychic (guest star Loretta Devine, "Waiting to Exhale," "Crash") after their mother's death and they turn to the same woman for answers of their own. Together they discover a malevolent poltergeist has inhabited the house and set out to exorcise it, but are blindsided when another unseen spirit steps in.

  • Discussion 2: The One Where The Winchesters Are White and Homeless
KJ, Meredith, and Frances are diving into the way race was addressed, or not addressed, on Supernatural as well as the Winchesters’ experiences with police and white privilege. There’s a couple breaks to talk about characters who could and should have had spinoffs, ways characters could’ve been better utilized, and even a quick break to talk about the show’s romantic interests. KJ makes it abundantly clear she doesn’t know a lot of things, but what she does know how to do is record a podcast!

  • S01E08: The One With the Bugs
KJ and Meredith are on their own again this week for one of Supernatural’s least respected episodes. There’s a lot of insects, some serious misuse of Native American culture, and two grown men following a teenager off the bus and into a forest. KJ and Meredith discuss what pit of insects is the most ideal choice to stick your bare hand into. And of course some helpful advice on when it’s okay to dig up a mass grave and carry the bones around in a cardboard box-hint: it’s never okay.
CW Episode description: After a construction worker is killed by insects burrowing into his brain, Sam and Dean investigate the town's history and find that the new housing development is being built on sacred Indian land. The Indians put a curse on the land after their reservation had been ravished and destroyed. Sam and Dean must find a way to survive and kill the deadly swarm of bees, locusts, spiders and beetles.

  • S01E07: The One About Urban Legends
KJ and Meredith don’t know a lot about cars, but they do know bananas aren’t conventional tools for fixing them. Meredith reveals she’s never seen Ghostbusters, after KJ is delighted by a Ghostbusters reference. It’s an episode filled with urban legends that extra research somehow made even worse, because that’s how things go on this podcast!
CW Episode description: The infamous "Hookman," a vengeful spirit who kills his victims with a shiny hook that serves as his hand, terrorizes a small college town in Iowa. Sam and Dean learn that all the victims are connected to the daughter of a local minister and race to find and destroy the Hook Man's bones before he comes for them.

  • S01E06: The One With the Skin Peeling Scene
In this truly disgusting episode, KJ and Meredith gross themselves out thinking about the smell of a sewer inhabited by a shapeshifter. KJ makes fun of Star Trek out of pocket. What KJ and Meredith are fans of is a high stakes middle-of-the-case opening followed by rewinding to an earlier time and learning over the course of the episode how things got to where they were-exactly what this episode delivers.
CW Episode description: Sam and Dean come to the aid of Sam's old college buddy after he is accused of a murder he swears he didn't commit. The brothers discover a shapeshifter is adopting the likenesses of others and murdering people. The brothers' race to stop the shapeshifter takes a terrifying turn when he shifts into the likeness of Dean.

  • S01E05: The One With the Broken Mirrors
It’s a full on slumber party as KJ is joined by Meredith, Frances, and Jordan to recap and discuss “Bloody Mary”, the episode inspired by the pervasive urban legend that has led so many children to gamble with the supernatural at sleepovers and in school bathrooms. KJ herself nearly took that gamble for the aEsThEtIc of the podcast this week by contemplating recording herself playing Bloody Mary. KJ also says “journicle article” with a straight face and not one guest calls her out on it.
CW Episode Description: In suburban Ohio, a group of partying high school teens jokingly dare their friend Charlie (guest star Marnette Patterson) to look into the mirror and repeat "Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary," not knowing this will unleash a series of mysterious murders. Sam and Dean realize that Bloody Mary has the power to travel through all reflective surfaces when she is hunting a victim. Worried that teens are accidentally summoning Bloody Mary, Sam and Dean race to destroy the violent spirit before she can kill again.

  • Discussion 1: The One Where John's Missing On Purpose
Dad’s on a hunting trip and… where did he go exactly? KJ, Meredith, and Frances put their heads together and try to track down what John was doing when he was actively avoiding his two sons who dropped everything to look for him. While most of John’s whereabouts and activities remained a mystery, they also talked a little about John’s upbringing (seriously who is John’s mother and why is she never mentioned by John, the boys, or Henry Winchester?), his parenting, and whether or not John is actually a capable hunter deserving of his seemingly widespread reputation in the hunting community.

  • S01E04: The One Where Dean's Afraid of Flying
KJ proves exactly how little biblical knowledge she has by confusing Jesus’ birthplace and hometowns, and saying Moses “hung out” on a mountain. Meredith puts up with this and attempts to provide some supplementary knowledge. What KJ does know a lot about-Ed and Lorraine Warren and their museum full of allegedly haunted and dangerous things. And we would like to fire EVERYONE working security in this episode, demons are more believable than the fact that Dean brought an open juice jug filled with holy water on an airplane in 2005.
CW Episode description: On TransNational flight 2485, a man possessed by the spirit of the Phantom Traveler causes the plane to crash, leaving only seven survivors left alive. Sam and Dean must exorcise the angry spirit before it attacks the survivors. The brothers realize the only way to do that is to take the battle to the skies.

  • S01E03: The One With the Lake Ghost
KJ and Meredith are on their own again as they break down the events of season 1 episode 3. There’s a vengeful spirit in a fictional lake, a woman who is willing and able to call Dean out on his shameless flirting, and a sidebar about Phineas and Ferb! We’re getting a little nitpicky with the math, but some things just aren’t adding up about how long Sam and Dean were on the outs. Also just pure joy as Dean Winchester interacts with a child wholesomely.
CW Episode description: Sam and Dean investigate a series of mysterious drownings written off as suicides. They discover the spirit is an angry little boy with the power to travel through water who is taking revenge on certain town inhabitants for a dark secret buried long ago. Dean forms a bond with a young boy who seems to have the power of premonition.
