The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor has entered into an agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, allowing state agents to train in immigration enforcement and help ICE agents when needed. We're monitoring a couple of tropical systems, though neither is expected to directly impact Mississippi. Tropical Storm Imelda is forecast to become a hurricane and take a sharp turn out to sea well off the Southeast coast by Tuesday. Both Imelda and Hurricane Humberto will generate high surf, rip currents, and some coastal flooding along parts of the East Coast.

Lawmakers have just under 48 hours to fund the government, or it will shut down. Last week, the House passed a continuing resolution that would extend current funding through Nov. 21. The Trump administration backs the bill, but Democrats are blocking it in the Senate.

One person was injured when a car crashed into the front of the Treasure Tail Thrift store in Hattiesburg on Saturday. According to police, the driver was trying to park, but something was blocking her from hitting the brake pedal. She told deputies she panicked and accidentally accelerated. The crash damaged nearly every column on the store's front porch.

“Thrilling” may be the only word to describe the weekend that was in college football. Ole Miss overcame an early deficit and upset LSU 24 to 19. Mississippi State lost to Tennessee, with the Volunteers winning 41 to 34. Southern Miss got back in the win column with a home win over Jacksonville State. Jackson State won the Boombox Classic over Southern University, 38 to 13.

A Walthall County man died after an altercation at a home in Tylertown on Saturday. 43-year-old Kevin Magee was pronounced dead at Walthall General Hospital. Plus, five human trafficking victims were rescued during a 2-day operation led by the Attorney General's Human Trafficking Task Force in Oxford last week. Federal, state, and local law enforcement partners arrested 7 people during "Operation Fins Up", which was conducted on September 24 and 25.

Hundreds of volunteers packed 10,000 registration bags ahead of Cruisin’ the Coast, which kicks off on October 5 and will run through the 12. Executive Director Woody Bailey told us one of the biggest changes this year will be the location of Cruise Central, which is moving from Centennial Plaza to Jones Park. Cruisin' the Coast has been voted Best Automobile event in the United States for six years in a row!

Hancock High School is closed today due to air conditioning issues on the campus. Classes at all other schools in the district will take place as normal. Plus, a Stone County deputy is recovering from injuries sustained in a shootout with a suspect at a home in Wiggins over the weekend. According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, deputies went to the home on Taylor Road to serve a warrant when the suspect opened fire at them.
