The U.S. economy grew at a much stronger-than-expected pace in the second quarter. The GDP jumped 3%, topping the Dow Jones estimate for 2.3%. Consumer spending rose 1.4% in the second quarter, better than the 0.5% in the prior period. Trump responded to the GDP report with a fresh demand for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.

The Neshoba County Fair is recognized as a political stumping ground, and Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann didn't disappoint when he took to the podium to announce plans for a possible income tax rebate in 2026. According to Hosemann, taxpayers would receive 15% of what they paid in 2023.

Five workers who were injured in a workplace incident at the Chevron Refinery in Pascagoula on July 14 have filed suit against the company. According to the suit, what Chevron described as a fire was an explosion, which the plaintiffs claim was the result of gross negligence.

President Trump signed an executive order promising to eliminate EV mandates imposed under former President Joe Biden in January. On Tuesday, the EPA moved to rescind federal climate regulations on vehicles. The President of the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers' Association, Skip Scaggs, told us they believe the government should not dictate what type of vehicles companies make.

A Long Beach man pleaded guilty Monday to felony charges of child abuse and child endangerment, resulting in a sentence that includes 15 years behind bars. The investigation began when the Long Beach Police Department received a call from a local school reporting that a six-year-old student had not shown up for class. Another student informed school officials that the victim was absent due to abuse by Omar Deluna. Plus, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of a new entrance road at the Harrison County Campus on Thursday at 3 p.m.
