Capitol Police say a man was found beaten with a firearm at a Jackson park Friday. Plus, a man was arrested in Tupelo this week for filming women in a grocery store bathroom, and eight were arrested in a Brookhaven drug bust.

We're learning more about the man who was killed in an hours-long standoff with police in Saucier on Wednesday. Jason Simmons' parents told WLOX that the 40-year-old was suffering from a psychotic episode and believed the Harrison County deputies who came to their house were people trying to kill him. According to family members, Jason suffered brain damage in a car crash in 2018, and his behavior had only become erratic over the past three months. They got a court order for a psychiatric evaluation that was signed by a judge on Tuesday. Harrison County deputies were serving the court order Wednesday when Simmons displayed a gun and barricaded himself in a shed on the property. According to state investigators, Simmons exchanged rounds with deputies around 10 p.m.

Mississippi residents are being warned about several ongoing email and text scams. Scammers have been contacting residents, claiming they owe money for outstanding warrants or fines. Another scam that's been on the rise is coming from criminals who claim to work for the Mississippi Department of Motor Vehicles. DPS Commissioner Sean Tindell told us they're trying to track down the criminals behind these scams.

According to WLBT, 27 illegal immigrants were arrested in Mississippi this week. All of them are charged with re-entering back into the country illegally, meaning they were once deported from the United States but have since made their way back, which is a federal crime. Plus, the Biloxi Shuckers defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts in Tennessee on Thursday, snapping the Lookouts ' 3 game winning streak with a final score of 6-5.

A Mississippi inmate who has been on death row longer than any other inmate had his motion for a rehearing denied by the Mississippi Supreme Court on Thursday. Richard Jordan was sentenced to death for the kidnapping and murder of Edwina Marter in Harrison County in 1976. Jordan's execution date is set for June 25.

Hundreds of golfers and good-timers will gather this weekend in Greenville for the 14th annual Delta Soul Celebrity Golf & Charity Event.
